Hoosiers Travel To Kentucky

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field team will hit the road for the first time of the 2017-18 indoor season. They will head to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the two-day Kentucky Invitational.
There will be a total of 16 men's teams and 17 women's teams competing including two top-25 national ranked teams on both sides. For the men, Indiana will be the highest ranked team at 14th and Kentucky is currently ranked 18th. For the women, Kentucky will come in with the highest ranking coming in at ninth and Cincinnati is ranked 21st.
There will be four events on Friday, January 12 starting with the men's weight throw at 4:00 pm EST that will be followed by the women's weight throw at approximately 6:30 pm EST. On the track, the men's distance medley relay will start at 7:00 pm EST with the women's distance medley relay starting at approximately 7:15 pm EST.
In the men's weight throw redshirt senior Andrew Miller has started the season off strong as he is currently sitting in the No. 5 spot in the national rankings. Miller set a new all-time Hoosier record last weekend at the Indiana vs. Tennessee Duals with the mark of 21.38m (70'1.75").
In the women's weight throw Junior Nycia Ford is currently ranked No. 14 in the national rankings after she threw 19.29m (63'3") at the Hoosier Open. Redshirt freshman Princess Brinkley and freshman Maddie Pollard are two young athletes to watch in the women's weight throw.
The Kentucky Invitational is the debut meet for the Hoosiers men's and women's distance medley relay (DMR) teams. The men's DMR team will consist of redshirt freshman Teddy Browning, freshman Isaiah Ware, redshirt freshman Marcus Ellington and redshirt freshman Ben Veatch. Sophomore Joely Pinkston, junior Riley Egbula, sophomore Mallory Mulzer and redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel will compete for the women's DMR team.
On Saturday, January 13 the field events will begin at 9:00 am EST starting with men's and women's high jump. The track events will begin at 12:00 pm EST starting with the men's 60m hurdles.
In the field for the men freshman Jyles Etienne is currently No. 3 in the high jump with the mark of 2.21m (7'3") at the Hoosier Open. Junior David Schall is ranked No. 5 in the shot put with the mark of 18.70m (61'4.25") this past week at the Tennessee Duals. Sophomore Adam Coulon is ranked No. 6 in the national rankings in pole vault with his mark from the Tennessee Duals of 5.25m (17'2.75").
In the field for the women sophomore Khayla Dawson will return to competition after taking last weekend off. Dawson is currently ranked No. 5 in the national rankings from her mark at the Hoosier Open of 16.61m (54'6").
On the track for the men redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon and redshirt freshman Teddy Browning are ranked No. 5 and No. 9 in the national rankings in the men's 800m run. Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau is ranked No. 1 in the 3000m run with the time of 8:07.44 and junior Joe Murphy is ranked currently ranked No. 3 with the time of 8:11.13.
On the track for the women junior Haley Harris is currently nationally ranked in two events, No. 3 in the 800m and No. 5 in the mile. Sophomore Joely Pinkston sits two spots behind Harris in the 800m coming in at No. 5 and redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel is sitting at No. 8 in the mile.
