Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team will begin the semester by hosting the IU Winter Invitational Jan. 13-15 at the IU Tennis Center.
In addition to the Hoosiers, the event will feature students from Marquette, Colorado, Abilene Christian, Wright State, DePaul and Mississippi State.
The Hoosiers return six players from a season ago and have four newcomers.
Freshmen Andjelija Bozovic (Burr Ridge, Ill.), Michelle McKamey (Paducah, Ky.), Olga Zavarotnaya (Vitebsk, Belarus) and senior Xiwei Cai (Tianjin, China) join the Hoosiers for the 2017-18 season.
The Hoosiers return juniors Madison Appel and Natalie Whalen and redshirt sophomore Caitlin Bernard. Last year Appel earned First Team All-Big Ten Honors.
Returning for their sophomore season are Anna McCoy, Emma Love and Pauline Jahren.
IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said he is excited to start competition this spring
"I think we have a deeper team this year and they are eager to compete," Azcui said. "I think all of our players can step in and make an impact for us this season. We are all very excited to get the season underway."
The next event IU will host is the Crimson Invite with Western Michigan and Butler on Jan. 20. These will be the team's first dual matches of the season.
