Hoosiers Open Season with Crimson Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team will open dual match competition with the Crimson Invitational on Saturday Jan. 20 against Western Michigan and Butler at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers will take on Western Michigan at 10:00 a.m. and host Butler in the second match at 5:30 p.m.
The IU Tennis Center is located across the parking lot from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall at 1833 North Fee Lane in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers got back to competition last week with the IU Winter Invitational. Indiana tallied an overall record of 28-9 in combined singles and doubles matches for the tournament.
The Hoosiers are led by Madison Appel, who has tallied a season record of 10-2 in singles and 11-4 in doubles.
Indiana had five players, Appel, Caitlin Bernard, Jelly Bozovic, Pauline Jahren and Michelle McKamey go 2-0 in singles at the Winter Invitational.
Western Michigan has a 1-0 dual match record with a win on Jan. 13 against Oakland. Butler is 0-2 in dual matches, coming against Marian and most recently they dropped a match on Jan. 13 against Purdue.
IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said he is excited to start dual match play with his team.
"I'm thrilled and excited to get the season started with this group," he said. "We showed excellent depth with great individual performances from a variety of people this weekend. I think this group will continue to improve and grow as the season goes on."
Fans coming to the matches on Saturday can get the official IU women's tennis poster and schedule card.
