LAST TIME WITH THE SPARTANS
Michigan State is one of three opponents the Hoosiers exchange home games with this season. In the previous meeting that opened up Big Ten play on Dec. 28, the Spartans took the meeting 68-46.
EIGHT POINTS OR LESS
Indiana has battled in its share of close games this season, including Tuesday's loss at No. 14 Maryland. The Hoosiers are 3-6 in games decided by eight points or less. Four of those games have come in Big Ten play.
THAT SCHEDULE IS TOUGH
The Hoosiers are playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, which is currently the fourth hardest in the country behind UConn, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. They have faced six ranked opponents this season, including four of their first seven games against ranked teams of which they met three of those on the road.
PENN PUTS UP POINTS
Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn posted back-to-back double figure games as she tied a team-high 18 points on a 5-for-8 clip from 3-point range at No. 14 Maryland on Tuesday. It marked the eighth game in double digits for the Louisville, Ky. native, who is averaging 9.9 points and 5.0 rebounds in her freshman season. She ranks sixth in points per game amongst all Big Ten freshmen, third in steals (1.2), tied for fifth in assists (2.4) sixth in rebounding.
YEANEY ADDS SPARK
Freshman guard Bendu Yeaney provided another spark for the Hoosiers at No. 14 Maryland. She posted her first career double-double with 10 points, all scored in the second half, to go along with 10 rebounds. It marked her eighth game in double figures this season.
BUSS SETS SCORING RECORD
Senior guard Tyra Buss broke the Indiana Women's Basketball record for points scored on Jan. 3 at Penn State. She eclipsed former record holder Denise Jackson's 1,917 points set in 1983-84 with her game-high 27 points against the Lady Lions and has now scored 1,992 career points. She ranks sixth amongst all-time players at Indiana (men's and women's) and is on pace to become the sixth player ever to wear an Indiana jersey to score over 2,000 points.
MORE RECORDS TO BREAK
With records set in points scored, free throws made and free throws attempted, Buss will set her sights on the steals (257) and assists (493) records at Indiana. Currently, Buss ranks second in both of those categories.
Category (Number To Break Record)
Steals - 3
Assists - 41
CAHILL MAKES HER MARK
Senior Amanda Cahill will also move her way up in the IU record books this season, already making her mark in points scored and rebounds. She's just the third-ever player to record over 1,600 points and 900 rebounds. She ranks ninth all-time in scoring (1,600), third all-time in rebounds (985), third in all-time double-doubles (37) and seventh in blocks (107). She's also on pace to become the third player in school history to grab 1,000 rebounds and would join Whitney Thomas (1,090) and Denise Jackson (1,273).
KYM'S IMPROVEMENT
Junior forward Kym Royster's play this season is one of the best improvements of any player in the Big Ten. The Newark, Ohio native is averaging 11.2 points per contest and has scored in double figures in 12 games this season including back-to-back games against Purdue and Michigan. Her +7.0 points per game this season is one of the best improvements in the Big Ten, ranking fourth among all returning players. She's also adding +4.1 rebounds from a season ago, averaging the team's second-best mark in 6.7 boards per game.
