Hoosiers Win Thirteen Events On Day Two Of The Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field team closed out the Gladstein Invitational by winning thirteen events Saturday afternoon.
Junior David Schall started the Hoosiers off with a win in the men's shot put with the final mark of 17.71m (58'1.25"). Schall is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 11 in the NCAA rankings from his performance at the Tennessee Duals (18.70m / 61'4.25").
On the women's side sophomore Khayla Dawson secured the No. 3 spot in the Big Ten rankings with her winning of 16.64m (54'7.5"). Freshman Maddie Pollard took second place with the mark of 15.23m (50'0").
Junior Aaliyah Armstead won the women's long jump with the mark of 5.99m (19'8"), which puts her at the No. 5 spot in the Big Ten rankings. Sophomore Jenna Jungels finished fifth overall with the mark of 5.73m (18'9.75"). Jungles currently sits in the No. 3 spot in Big Ten rankings form her performance at the Hoosier Open.
Freshman Jyles Etienne returned to the field for his second performance this season and won the men's high jump with the mark of 2.07m (6'9.5"). The Nassau, Bahamas native currently holds the No. 1 spot in the Big Ten rankings and the No. 5 spot in the NCAA rankings from his performance at the Hoosier Open (2.21m / 7'3").
The Hoosiers won eight events on the track. Sophomore Megan Grabowski won the first track event of the afternoon in the women's 200m with the final time of 24.72. On the men's side junior Derek Grimmer won the men's 200m fast section with the time of 22.04.
All-American Daniel Kuhn won the men's 600m fast section with the time of 1:17.90, which is currently the No. 1 spot in the Big Ten rankings. Freshman Zubin Muncherji finished third overall with the time of 1:21.99. Senior Kendell Wiles had a close finish in the women's 600m fast section and finished second overall with the time of 1:30.38, which is the No. 2 spot in the Big Ten rankings.
Junior Kelsey Harris led the Hoosiers to victory in the women's 600m race and earned the No. 8 spot in the Big Ten rankings with the time of 1:32.68. Sophomore Mallory Mulzer finished fourth (1:34.37), junior Riley Egbula finished fifth (1:35.58), sophomore Joely Pinkston finished sixth (1:35.94) and redshirt sophomore Anevay Hiehle closed out the race for the Hoosiers (1:37.42).
Redshirt freshman Marcus Ellington took first place in the men's 800m in the last stretch of the race finishing with the time of 1:55.48. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy and redshirt freshman Teddy Browning took second and third in the men's 800m fast section. Browning is currently ranked No. 8 in the Big Ten rankings form his performance at the Tennessee Duals (1:52.96) while Murphy is ranked No. 10 in the Big Ten after the Kentucky Invitational (1:53.35).
The Hoosiers dominated all of the relays at the Gladstein Invitational starting with the women's 4x800. The team consisting of Anevay Hiehle, Joely Pinkston, Mallory Mulzer and Kelsey Harris took first place with the time of 9:13.11. The men's team consisting of Bryce Millar, Teddy Browning, Marcus Ellington and Joe Murphy also took first place with the team of 7:42.78.
The women's 4x400m team consisting of Jeyland Valentin, Natalie Price, Kendell Wiles and Riley Egbula won the race and earned the No. 5 spot in the Big Ten rankings with the time of 3:44.37. The men's team consisting of Isaiah Ware, Derek Grimmer, Daniel Kuhn and Zubin Muncherji crossed the finish line first with the time of 3:14.87. There was a second IU team consisting of Moses Bahron, Dushawn Tunstall, William Session and Clayton Cook who finished seventh overall.
The Hoosiers will be back in action at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse next weekend for the Indiana University Relays on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.
