OPENING TIP
• The 118th season of Indiana basketball continues on Monday when the Hoosiers host Maryland. IU is coming off an 85-57 loss at #9 Michigan State, while the Terrapins defeated Minnesota, 77-66, in their last outing. IU is playing the 2nd game of a 7-game, 17-day stretch which will see IU play 4 ranked opponents.

• Sophomore center De'Ron Davis, who started the first 15 games this season, underwent surgery on Jan. 10 to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his right leg and will miss the remainder of the season. The Colorado native is fourth in the Big Ten in field goal percentage shooting 61.5%. He is averaging 9.6 points and 4.3 rebounds.

THE COACHES
• Archie Miller is the 29th head coach in Indiana men's basketball history. He won his 150th career game with the triumph over Northwestern on Jan. 14. The 39-year old native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, comes to IU after serving the previous six seasons as head coach at the University of Dayton, where he won Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championships in 2016 and 2017. He was Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2017. He guided the Flyers to a 139-63 record (69.8) and a 68-34 mark (66.7) in the Atlantic 10. He took Dayton to the NCAA Tournament each of the last four years, with the Flyers advancing to the Elite Eight in the 2014 Tournament. UD was nationally ranked in 3 of Miller's 6 seasons (2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16).

• Mark Turgeon is in his 7th year of leading the Terrapin program. He is 153-74 and 3-2 against Indiana.

NEWS & NOTES
• The Hoosiers have won their last four games in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and are 3-0 in the league at home this season. IU has committed an average of 9.7 turnovers in the last 3 games.

• One of the best defensive efforts in years and a hot second half shooting performance carried IU to their most recent win over Northwestern. IU held the Wildcats (who came in averaging 74 points per game) to 46, the third lowest total the Hoosiers had allowed in a Big Ten game since 2000. They also limited the visitors to 26.8% shooting (the 2nd lowest output for an IU opponent since 2000). The Hoosiers shot 60.9% in the second half.

• Junior Juwan Morgan missed the last 22 minutes of the Michigan State game with an ankle injury. He leads the Hoosiers in scoring averaging 14.8 points per game and is among the league leaders in rebounds (7.2) and field goal percentage (68.2%). He had his sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds against Penn State.

•   Senior Robert Johnson currently has the hot hand for the Hoosiers. In the last four games, he is averaging 19.1 points and shooting 41.9% from three-point range (13-of-31). He also has averaged 5.8 rebounds in that stretch. He had a team-high 21 points against Michigan State and added 7 rebounds. He had a career-high 28 points at Minnesota. He is now in 32nd place on the IU all-time scoring list with 1,244 points and fourth on the school's all-time list with 209 treys.

• Since replacing Davis in the starting lineup, freshman Justin Smith has averaged 9.8 points per game and shot a team-high 55.6% from the field in that time. He scored 20 points and hit the go-ahead shot in the final minutes at Minnesota. He had 9 points and 4 rebounds at Michigan State.

• Senior Josh Newkirk is averaging 14.0 points in his last 3 games. The Hoosiers are 5-1 in his career when he scores 16 points or more in a game. He had 14 points and 3 assists against Michigan State.

QUICK HITS
• The Hoosiers are second in Big Ten games in steals (6.9) and turnover margin (+3.7).

• During the Hoosiers recent 3-game winning streak, they allowed opponents 62.3 points on 39.5% shooting from the field and 35.5% shooting from long range. They had entered the Minnesota game allowing 72.4 points per game on 43.9% shooting and 38.4% from 3FG range.

The Hoosiers also trailed late against Notre Dame before pulling out the win. The Hoosiers trailed the Irish, 65-57 with 2:01 remaining in the game.

• Graduate forward Collin Hartman is back for a fifth year after sitting out last year with knee surgery.   Hartman started 24 games for the eventual Big Ten champions in 2016, averaging 5.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He had a career-high 18 points at Wisconsin and added 10 points and 5 boards against Penn State. He had 11 points in 16 minutes against Duke and had a career-high 12 rebounds against Fort Wayne. He followed that up with a season-high 13 points against Iowa.

• Senior guard Robert Johnson has been a starter for 106 of the 117 games he has been healthy to play since joining the team in 2014-15. The newest member of IU's 1,000-point club is averaging 14.0 points per game after he notched a career-high 28 points at Minnesota. He had 14 points and 5 assists against Wisconsin. He added 17 points against Northwestern and 21 at MSU.

• Senior guard Josh Newkirk has started 51 career games. He is shooting 36.0% from long distance against Big Ten opponents this year. He has made 40% (6 of 15) from long distance in the last 2 games.

• Junior forward Juwan Morgan is arguably one of the most improved players in the Big Ten. He has 6 double-doubles, the latest coming in a 21-point, 11 rebound effort against PSU, following a 20-point, 12-board performance at Minnesota. He is averaging 15.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in his last 10 games.

• Sophomore forward De'Ron Davis is third on the team averaging 9.6 points and is second at 4.3 rebounds and is out for the season after having surgery on his right achilles.

• Sophomore guard Devonte Green is averaging a team-high 7.3 points when coming off the bench. He had 13 points against Penn State and made 4 free throws in the final 30 seconds to preserve the win for IU. He also made 2 free throws in the final seconds to help IU beat Notre Dame.
