ABOUT THE BADGERS
Wisconsin is coming off its first Big Ten win of the season in a 58-46 victory at home over Northwestern on Sunday that also snapped an eight-game skid. They are led by senior guard Cayla McMorris (14.1 ppg., 5.9 rpg.) and junior forward Marsha Howard (11.1 ppg., 7.7 rpg.) who scored a game-high 21 points against the Wildcats. As a team, the Badgers are shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and averaging 61.7 points per contest.
PENN NAMED BIG TEN FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday. It followed her performances against No. 14 Maryland and Michigan State where she averaged 15.5 points and shot 72.7 percent from the 3-point line and 45.8 percent from the floor. It marked the first Freshman of the Week honor for Indiana since Tyra Buss in 2014-15.
HOOSIERS WIN IN EAST LANSING
Indiana picked up its first win at Michigan State since 2009-10 with a 69-65 win on Saturday. Senior guard Tyra Buss scored a game-high 28 points as the Hoosiers raced out to a 33-14 lead after the first quarter. They also connected on 11 3-pointers in the win including five from Buss and three each from senior forward Amanda Cahill and freshman guard Jaelynn Penn.
EIGHT POINTS OR LESS
Indiana has battled in its share of close games this season, including Tuesday's loss at No. 14 Maryland. The Hoosiers are 4-6 in games decided by eight points or less this season. Five of those games have come in Big Ten play including the 69-65 win at Michigan State on Saturday.
THAT SCHEDULE IS TOUGH
The Hoosiers are playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, which is currently the fourth hardest in the country behind Notre Dame, UConn and Oklahoma. They have faced six ranked opponents this season, including four of their first seven games against ranked teams of which they met three of those on the road.
PENN PUTS UP POINTS
Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn has found an offensive spark as she has posted three-consecutive games in double figures. In those last three games, Penn is 9-for-14 from the 3-point line. She has posted nine game in double digits this season and is averaging 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in her freshman season. She ranks sixth in points per game amongst all Big Ten freshmen, third in steals (1.1), tied for fifth in assists (2.3) sixth in rebounding.
BUSS SETS SCORING RECORD
Senior guard Tyra Buss set another career milestone on Saturday when she became the first Indiana Women's Basketball player to score 2,000 points. Buss is one of six players (men's or women's) at Indiana to score 2,000 points and has now recorded 2,020 points. Buss broke the record for points scored on Jan. 3 at Penn State. She eclipsed former record holder Denise Jackson's 1,917 points set in 1983-84 with her game-high 27 points against the Lady Lions.
MORE RECORDS TO BREAK
With records set in points scored, free throws made and free throws attempted, Buss will set her sights on the steals (257) and assists (500) records at Indiana. Currently, Buss ranks second in both of those categories.
Category (Number To Break Record)
Steals - 3
Assists - 34
CAHILL MAKES HER MARK
Senior Amanda Cahill is set for another career milestone on Wednesday night, as she approaches her 1,000th rebound. Only two players have recorded 1,000 rebounds in school history in Denise Jackson (1,273) and Whitney Thomas (1,090). She's just the third-ever player to record over 1,600 points and 900 rebounds. She ranks seventh all-time in scoring (1,617), third all-time in rebounds (994), third in all-time double-doubles (37) and seventh in blocks (108).
KYM'S IMPROVEMENT
Junior forward Kym Royster's play this season is one of the best improvements of any player in the Big Ten. The Newark, Ohio native is averaging 11.0 points per contest and has scored in double figures in 12 games this season including back-to-back games against Purdue and Michigan. Her +6.8 points per game this season is one of the best improvements in the Big Ten, ranking fourth among all returning players. She's also adding +4.0 rebounds from a season ago, averaging the team's second-best mark in 6.6 boards per game.
YEANEY ADDS SPARK
Freshman guard Bendu Yeaney provided another spark for the Hoosiers at No. 14 Maryland. She posted her first career double-double with 10 points, all scored in the second half, to go along with 10 rebounds. It marked her eighth game in double figures this season.
