Hoosiers Host The Indiana University Relays This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana track and field will host ten teams for the Indiana University Relays on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse. The Hoosiers come into this meet ranked No. 9 on the men's side and No. 23 on the women's side.
The only other ranked team that will be competing is the University of Kentucky who sits at No. 6 on both the men's and women's side. Other teams that will be making an appearance will be: Notre Dame, South Florida, Miami (Ohio), Cincinnati, Western Kentucky and Florida International.
The meet will open with the men's 60m hurdles for the heptathlon at 5:00pm EST on Friday. The field events will start at 5:35pm EST with the men's long jump also for the heptathlon. The first event the Hoosiers will be competing in will be the women's 60m hurdle trials at 5:10pm EST and the men's 60m hurdle trials at 5:20pm EST.
In the field on day one the Hoosiers have some strong competitors. Junior Eric Bethea and junior Treyton Harris will be competing in the men's long jump. Bethea is currently ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten with his mark from the Hoosier Open (7.37m / 24'2.25"). Harris currently has the sixth best mark of 7.36m (24'1.75") from the Tennessee Duals.
In the men's pole vault sophomore Adam Coulon has the fourth best mark in the Big Ten from his performance last weekend with the final mark of 5.31m (17'5") at the Gladstein Invitational. Redshirt freshman Brock Mammoser is also ranked ninth in the Big Ten in pole vault.
In the shot put junior David Schall will attempt to beat his mark from the Tennessee Duals (18.70m / 61'4.25"), which currently has him sitting at the No. 4 spot in the Big Ten rankings. Freshman Nick Lane will also be competing in the men's shot put Friday night.
Sophomore Khayla Dawson will be the women's field athlete to watch Friday night in the shot put at 8:30pm EST. The Charlotte, NC native has been climbing the ranking board each meet and is currently ranked No. 14 in the NCAA and has the third best mark in the Big Ten from her performance at the Gladstein Invitational last weekend. Dawson finished with the mark of 16.64m (54'7.25").
Friday night the track will feature two key events for the Hoosiers, the women's 600m and the men's 600m. Seniors Kendell Wiles and Daniel Kuhn are both ranked in the top-5 in the Big Ten and had top-10 NCAA marks last weekend.
Wiles had the fourth fastest time last weekend and is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten rankings with the time of 1:30.38. The Blacksburg, Va. native sits behind Minnesota's Titania Markland (1:29.42).
Kuhn ran the sixth fastest time last weekend and is currently ranked No. 3 in the Big Ten with the final time of 1:17.90. The senior is currently ranked behind Isaiah Harris (No. 1, 1:16.55) of Penn State and Carter Lilly (No. 2, 1:17.79) of Iowa.
Day two of the Indiana University Relays will start on the track and 9:00am EST with the women's 60m hurdles for the pentathlon. The field events will begin at 9:35am EST with the women's high jump also for the pentathlon.
Sophomore Jenna Jungels will be representing the Hoosiers in the women's pentathlon, which consists of the 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put. Jungels is currently ranked No. 5 in the Big Ten in the long jump with the mark of 6.03m (19'9.5") from the Hoosier Open.
As always, redshirt senior Andrew Miller will be a field athlete to watch Saturday morning. The Olympia, Wash. native broke the All-Time Hoosier record, which he previously held, last weekend at the Gladstein Invitational with the mark of 21.50m (70'6.5"). Miller's performance is currently ranked No. 10 in the NCAA and No. 4 in the Big Ten. David Schall and Nick Lane will compete alongside of Miller in the men's weight throw.
Junior Eric Bethea and freshman Jyles Etienne will also be field athletes to watch Saturday. Bethea is currently ranked third in the Big Ten in the men's triple jump with the mark of 15.50m (50'10.25") from the Kentucky Invitational. Etienne is currently ranked No. 6 in the NCAA and No. 2 in the Big Ten in the men's high jump. The Nassau, Bahamas native earned those rankings at the Hoosier Open in December.
On the field for the women junior Nycia Ford will be competing in the women's weight throw. Ford is currently ranked eighth in the Big Ten with the mark of 19.29m (63'3.5"). Redshirt freshman Princess Brinkley and freshman Maddie Pollard will also compete in the women's weight throw.
Sophomore Leah Moran will be the only Hoosier competing in the women's triple jump for the Hoosiers. The Stillwater, NY. native is currently ranked No. 7 in the Big Ten from her final mark at the Hoosier Open of 12.17m (39'11.25").
Day two on the track will feature some top ranked races for the Hoosiers starting with the men's mile at 11:35am EST. The men currently have four top-10 Big Ten ranked athletes in the mile, three of them will compete Saturday morning.
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau currently sits on top of the rankings for the Hoosiers. The Hudson, Ohio native won the mile at the Kentucky Invitational with the time of 4:02.77, which earned him the No. 6 spot in the NCAA rankings and the No. 2 spot in the Big Ten. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy finished second at the Kentucky Invitational earning the No. 3 spot in the Big Ten with the time of 4:07.04. Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch is the third ranked Hoosier competing in the men's mile, coming in at No. 6 in the Big Ten with the time of 4:07.53. Redshirt sophomore Bryce Millar and redshirt freshman Marcus Ellington will round out the race for Indiana. Indiana University alumni (2013) and Nike athlete, Andy Bayer will also compete in the men's mile.
The men's and women's 800m will be another event to watch Saturday afternoon. The women currently have four top-10 Big Ten ranked athletes, three will compete. The men have three Big Ten top-10 athletes but only one will compete.

Kelsey Harris is currently ranked No. 14 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the Big Ten from her performance of 2:08.81 at the Kentucky Invitational. Haley Harris has the ninth best time in the Big Ten from her performance at the Tennessee Duals finishing with the time of 2:10.46. Calder secured the No. 10 spot in the Big Ten after the Kentucky Invitational (2:10.78) and Pinkston secured the No. 11 spot in the Big Ten with the time of 2:10.81. Redshirt sophomore Anevay Hiehle will also run in the women's 800m.
On the men's side redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon will try to close the gap in the Big Ten rankings between himself (No. 4) and teammate Daniel Kuhn who is ranked No. 1 (1:49.05). The Bloomington, Ind. native earned his fourth place ranking after his performance at the Kentucky Invitational where he finished second with the time of 1:51.10. Redshirt freshman Teddy Browning will join Huntoon in the 800m run.
The Indiana University Relays will also welcome two Olympians, Omar McLeod and Angela Whyte, and world record holder Kendra (Keni) Harrison.
Omar McLeod, will compete in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. McLeod is a University of Arkansas alumni and Jamaican Olympian. He competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games (Gold, 110m hurdles) and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games (Gold, 110m hurdles). He also is the 2017 World Champion in the 100m hurdles as well as the 2016 World Indoor Champion in the 60m hurdles.
Angela Whyte, a Canadian Olympian and University of New Mexico alumni, will compete in the women's pentathlon. Whyte competed in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Kendra (Keni) Harrison is a Kentucky alumni and holds the world record in the 100m hurdles with the time of 12.20. Harrison will compete in the women's 60m dash and 200m dash.
