Weaver sticks Stickley in 30 seconds; Oliver wins seventh straight
MADISON, Wis. – Indiana scored their highest point total in a Big Ten dual meet this season on Friday night at UW Field House, but it wasn't enough to push past No. 21 Wisconsin in a 24-19 defeat. The Badgers (6-2, 3-2) won six weights with technical falls at 149 and 165, clinching the bout with a one-point decision at 197. the Hoosiers (6-6, 0-5) provided a formidable effort away from home, scoring two pins and three wins with bonus points.
Junior Elijah Oliver (125) continues his recent hot streak with a seventh straight victory to remain unbeaten in Big Ten dual meets, at 4-0. The 2:31 win by fall, earned on the first takedown of the dual meet, was Oliver's (16-6) second pin of the season.
After Wisconsin's decision win at 133, redshirt junior Cole Weaver (141) extended Indiana's early lead with a pin against Eli Stickley. Weaver's 0:34 fall time is the fastest by a Hoosier this season. The sixth pin of a stellar junior season gives 16th-ranked Weaver a 21-6 record and his second Big Ten dual meet win.
No. 19 Devin Skatzka (174) scored his first bonus point win of the season in a Big Ten dual meet with a 9-1 major decision over Ryan Christensen. Skatzka (18-7) was looking for IU's third pin but settled for a quartet of back points in the second period to extend his lead. The redshirt sophomore picked up the bonus point with a reversal in the third and a riding time point. That victory gives Skatzka a 2-1 career head-to-head lead over Christiansen.
The Badgers sealed their win with a major decision at 184 and an airtight decision win at 197, as Hunter Ritter won 6-5 over IU freshman Jake Kleimola (197). Ritter gained a 4-2 lead in the second but Kleimola countered with an escape and a takedown midway through the period. Ritter's third period escape tied the bout at 5-5, but Kleimola couldn't find the points needed to vault Ritter's riding time point.
Indiana ended their evening on a high note as they saw junior Fletcher Miller (285) pick up another victory in a conference dual meet, a 3-2 win against Ben Stone. Miller's third period takedown broke their 1-1 tie and he rode out the clock to prevent Stone from forcing sudden victory.
