Weaver beats Red in TB-1; Oliver’s win streak survives sudden victory
LINCOLN, Neb. – For the second time this weekend, Indiana's wrestling team came within five points of a top-25 upset at the Devaney Center. The Hoosiers (6-7, 0-6) took the first three matches, one with bonus points and another over a top-15 grappler, but a 16-point swing midway through the meet sent the 16th-ranked Huskers (7-3, 5-1) to their 23-18 result.

Looking back, the opening bout foreshadowed how tight the final split played out. Indiana's Elijah Oliver (125) grabbed an escape in the third period to tie his match with Mitch Maginnis at 1-1, forcing sudden victory. Seeking his seventh consecutive victory, Oliver (17-6) scored the winning drop to remain unbeaten in conference dual meets.
Garrett Pepple ended his weekend on a high note with a sinister stick at 133, pinning Brian Peska in 1:56 to go 2-0 on the Hoosiers' road trip. The six-point swing marked Pepple's fifth fall of the season; his third within the first period.
Inspired by wins from his teammates before him, Cole Weaver (141) took the mat for the marquee matchup with 13th-ranked Chad Red Jr. Weaver trailed 4-2 entering the third period, but broke out of Red Jr.'s cover in time to preserve his riding time point and tie the match at 4-4. That meant overtime.
Red Jr. found an escape from bottom to gain a lead, meaning Weaver had to tie it in his frame. Weaver got that and more with a reversal, holding on for the TB-1 6-5 decision and his fourth win over a ranked opponent this year.
After Nebraska picked up bonus point wins at 149, 157, and 165 to regain the lead, Devin Skatzka (174) put the brakes on the Huskers' run. Skatzka (18-7) erased Beau Breske's point lead and surpassed it, scoring a late takedown and four back points for a decision win.
The Huskers clinched the dual meet on Eric Schultz's third period takedown against Jake Kleimola (197), sealing a 6-4 decision and his team's 23-15 lead.
But Fletcher Miller (285) wasn't leaving the Devaney Center without his second win of the weekend. Gaining a 1-0 lead in the second period, Miller finished with emphasis in the final act, scoring consecutive takedowns for a 5-2 decision.
