Track and Field Travels To Ann Arbor For The Power 5 Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field teams will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. this week to compete in the Power 5 Invitational Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3. The men's team is currently ranked No. 23 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national team rankings.
There will be a total of ten teams over five conferences competing this weekend. Some of those teams include Big Ten powers Michigan (No. 17 women) and Minnesota (No. 11 women) and ACC foes Duke, Miami, Virginia (No. 24 men), Louisville and NC State. Other notable teams will be Pac-12 No. 17(men) Stanford and on the women's No. 19 Baylor out of the Big 12.
The first event for the Hoosiers will start 4:15pm EST with the women's 60m hurdle prelims featuring freshman Zykeria Williams and sophomore Jenna Jungels. Sophomore William Session and freshman Moses Baryoh will run in the men's 60m hurdle prelims.
Events to keep an eye for on day one will be the men's and women's distance medley relays (DMR). The women's team consisting of senior Brenna Calder, freshman Natalie Price, junior Kelsey Harris and redshirt junior Katherine Receveur and will start approximately at 6:02pm EST. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy, freshman Zubin Muncherji, senior Daniel Kuhn and redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau will make up the men's DMR team that will take off at the conclusion of the women's race.
The Hoosiers will not compete in any field events on day one.
Day two will start at 11:00am EST with men's weight throw, women's shot put and men's and women's long jump. The Hoosiers have top athletes in all of these opening events.
Redshirt senior Andrew Miller and freshman Nick Lane in the men's weight throw. Miller is currently No. 4 in the Big Ten and No. 12 in the NCAA with the mark of 21.73m (71'3.5") from his performance last weekend at the Indiana University Relays. Lane is currently sitting in the No. 13 spot in the Big Ten.
Sophomore Khayla Dawson and freshman Maddie Pollard in the women's shot put. Dawson is traveling to Michigan in the No. 3 spot in the Big Ten with the mark of 16.64m (54'7.25") and will be competing against Kiley Sabin of Minnesota who is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten. On the men's side, junior David Schall is ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten with the mark of 18.70m (61'4.25") and will compete at 1:15pm EST.
Junior Aaliyah Armstead, sophomore Leah Moran and sophomore Jenna Jungels in the women's long jump. Jungels is tied for the fifth best mark in the Big Ten with Ohio State's Taylor DeLoach. Armstead sits at the No. 7 spot with the mark of 5.99m (19'8").
Junior Treyton Harris and junior Eric Bethea in the men's long jump. Harris is coming into the Power 5 Invitational ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten from his strong performance last weekend finishing with the mark of 7.53m (24'8.5"). Bethea is ranked No. 5 in the Big Ten from his jump at the Hoosier Open in the beginning of December (7.37m / 24'2.25").
Senior Rachel Mather is tied for the ninth best mark in the Big Ten in the women's pole vault and will try to improve her mark of 3.85m (12'7.5") at 12:00pm EST. Men's pole vault will start at 12:30pm EST and will feature sophomore Adam Coulon (No. 4 Big Ten), redshirt freshman Brock Mammoser (No. 10 Big Ten) and sophomore Alex Shinnerl.
The men's high jump will be a key event for the Hoosiers. Freshman Jyles Etienne is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 8 in the NCAA with his mark of 2.21m (7'3") at the Hoosier Open back in December. Senior Paul Galas is in a three way tie in the No. 8 spot in the Big Ten with the mark of 2.10m (6'10.75"). Junior Treyton Harris will be making his season debut.
Junior Nycia Ford, freshman Maddie Pollard and redshirt freshman Princess Brinkley will compete in the women's weight throw at 1:15pm EST. Ford is currently ranked No. 9 in the Big Ten with her mark of 19.29m (63'3.5") from the Hoosier Open.
Day two field events will close out with the men's and women's triple jump. Junior Eric Bethea and sophomore Leah Moran will compete for the Hoosiers. Bethea is currently tied in the No. 4 in the Big Ten with DaJuan Seward of Ohio State both with the mark of 15.50m (50'10.25"). Moran is traveling to Michigan sitting in the No. 6 spot in the Big Ten from her final mark of 12.27m (40'3.25") last weekend at the Indiana University Relays.

Junior Haley Harris, senior Brenna Calder, redshirt junior Katherine Receveur and junior Maggie Allen have some strong competition including Gina Sereno (No. 2 Big Ten) and Hannah Meier (No. 9 Big Ten) of Michigan and Madeline Strandermo (No. 7 Big Ten) of Minnesota. All four Hoosiers are currently ranked in the Big Ten with Receveur at No. 3, Calder at No. 4, Allen at No. 10 and Haley Harris at No. 14.

Murphy earned the No. 5 spot in the Big Ten last weekend after finishing with the time of 4:04.08. Browning (No. 10) and Veatch (No. 11) are ranked from their performances at the Kentucky Invitational.

Junior Kelsey Harris has been improving her time with every meet and is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten with the time of 2:06.08 from her performance last weekend at the Indiana University Relays. Sophomore Joely Pinkston is ranked No. 8 in the Big Ten with the time of 2:10.02. Senior Kendell Wiles (No. 11) and sophomore Mallory Mulzer (No. 16) are ranked from their performances at the Kentucky Invitational.
