Rematches headline Indiana’s final dual meet of the regular season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After decades of hosting Indiana's home wrestling events, the Hoosiers will put an end to competition at University Gymnasium with Sunday's dual meet against Northwestern. The Big Ten dual meet and regular season finale will bring a handful of rematches to the U-Gym's final wrestling event as the Hoosiers aim to improve their NCAA résumés.
But wins won't come easy against the Wildcats, who have stunned several ranked conference foes as the Big Ten's breakout team of the season. Familiar encounters from this season's Midlands Championships await No. 20 Devin Skatzka (174) and Norman Conley (184), while No. 14 Cole Weaver (141) and Fletcher Miller (285) wrestle their opponents from last year's dual meet at Ryan Arena. Norman Conley (184) led the Hoosiers with two wins on the weekend, taking a win by forfeit against the Illini before topping Purdue's Max Lyon by decision, 5-4. Devin Skatzka (174) earned a decision win in the dual meet with Illinois.
Four in the Hunt
With the latest NCAA RPI rankings release, a quartet of Hoosiers are on the cusp of punching their ticket to wrestling's final weekend in Cleveland. It's no surprise that Cole Weaver (141) leads the IU contingency, ranking at No. 11 in his weight class. Devin Skatzka (174) eyes a return to the NCAA Championships with his No. 18 ranking.
Elijah Oliver (125), seeking a third trip to the NCAA Championships, sits at No. 20 in the class' top 33. And joining the potential travel party is Norman Conley (184), who ranks 29th after a 2-0 weekend at home.
Oliver, Weaver, and Skatzka also rank in the top-20 of the NCAA Coaches' Rankings.
Series History: Hoosiers vs. Wildcats
These two teams have met on the mat 82 times over the last 95 years. Indiana controls the all-time series, 46-32-4, but the Hoosiers and Wildcats have evenly split the last 10 dual meets.
The Hoosiers won last year's dual meet in Evanston, 23-14, taking six weights in the process.
We Meet Again
The upcoming dual meet is loaded with rematches. Biggest among them is Devin Skatzka's (174) expected second encounter with No. 18 Johnny Sebastian after the two wrestled at Midlands last semester. Sebastian won that match by major decision, 14-5. A Midlands rematch also awaits Norman Conley (184) against Mitch Sliga, who won their first match with a 4-0 decision.
Two rematches from last year's dual meet are on the card as well. Cole Weaver (141) hopes to find similar success from his 8-2 decision over Alec McKenna, while Fletcher Miller (285) will battle Conan Jennings at heavyweight. Jennings won by major decision, 8-0, in Evanston a year ago.
As many as seven Hoosiers could make their second career dual meet appearance against the Wildcats.
Up Next: The B1G Stage
Indiana follows their dual meet finale with two weeks of training in the wrestling room before they head to East Lansing for the Big Ten Wrestling Championships, set to run from March 3-4 at the Breslin Student Events Center. The weekend up north is more important than any so far this season, as the 10 IU entrants get an opportunity to prolong their season with a trip to the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships.

• Indiana native and Northwestern senior Mitch Sliga (184) will make his second career dual meet appearance in Bloomington.
