Postgame Quotes
Indiana at Iowa
Feb. 17, 2018
Indiana Head Coach Archie Miller
Opening statement:
"Heck of a win for our team. Coming into the game, I had a lot of respect for Iowa. Not only their home court advantage, but the pace and style they play with at home. They showed right away offensively how talented they are and how skilled they are. We didn't have a whole lot of answers there for a while. Luckily, it was the first time in a while that our offense kept us in the game, especially being able to attack the zone. Going into halftime only being down three, we were very fortunate. I thought in the second half we did a nice job of getting our defense established. We had a good group out there. It was a unique group out there with Colin Hartman and Justin Smith in there. They really got us going with some effort. And then our offense continued to go against the zone. I'm disappointed in the way we reacted against their man (defense). Just some uncharacteristic turnovers, but it happens. I'm going to watch a lot of basketball in the next two weeks and every game is going to have a lot of ups and downs, but you have to give our guys credit for finding a way to win. To be honest with you, to get a stop with nine seconds to go on the road… I thought (Jordan) Bohannon's shot was going in on us. We're lucky to come out of here with a win. We had a lot of guys step up. Can't say enough about our backcourt, Rob (Johnson) and Devonte (Green), those guys were really good.
On having Freddie McSwain Jr. in the game during the last two minutes:
"I think the big thing about Freddy is he's giving us consistent effort. He's another guy that can rebound. We got manhandled on the glass, especially in the second half. He was able to help us defensively. Being able to get a little bit of space, he got a nice little break when Devonte made a heck of a pass to him on the roll late in the game."
On Robert Johnson's nine three-pointers:
"I didn't realize he made nine three's. I realize that he made some, but I wasn't up to speed on exactly how many. I knew he made some really big ones. He made a big one right in front of our bench to put us up four. Then during that run in the second half, he made some big ones. I've been waiting for him to step up and have one of these nights. You have to give his teammates credit. Collin (Hartman) on offense was really good in the zone. He moved the ball and got guys shots. I thought Devonte (Green) was really good moving the ball as well in terms of making plays as a guard. We had 23 assists and only 10 turnovers and probably most of the turnovers happened in the last seven minutes."
On Iowa making their first 10 shots:
"We're in big trouble. They shot 71 percent for the half. You couldn't shoot 71 percent in shoot around. It was forceful way they were playing. They were manhandling us around the rim in the first four minutes. They used their front court to really space us out. (Tyler) Cook was really good off the lane for most of the night. (He's) hard to deal with. They're a good offensive team. If you look at their numbers, and what they've done all season, they're one of the best offensive teams in the country, especially in this place. I thought in the second half we had our moments where we were able to do a better job. We had more of a sound defense. Obviously their percentages came down. This game, as crazy as it sounds, came down to our offense. Our offense needed to be able to score today."
