Hoosiers Improve to 6-0 with Two Victories

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team continued its winning ways as they came out on top against Marquette (6-1) and Cleveland State (7-0) on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
The 6-0 start for the Hoosiers is their best start since they began the 2012-13 season 8-0.
Indiana 6, Marquette 1
The Hoosiers swept the three doubles matches to start things in the match. Olga Zavarotnaya and Natalie Whalen won 6-3 and Madison Appel and Michelle McKamey (6-3) and Jelly Bozovic and Caitlin Bernard also added victories for Indiana.
In singles, freshman Michelle McKamey improved to 5-0 in singles in dual match play with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Appel won 6-3, 6-3 and senior Xiwei Cai clinched the match for the Hoosiers with a 7-6, 6-3 victory to put Indiana up 4-0.
Caitlin Bernard and Jelly Bozovic won in three sets each to give the Hoosiers a 6-1 match victory.
Indiana 7, Cleveland State 0
With Cleveland State only having five players available there were two doubles matches and five singles matches.
Natalie Whalen and Olga Zavarotnaya won in doubles to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead in the match.
Madison Appel, Olga Zavarotnaya and Natalie Whalen won in straight sets in singles to put the Hoosiers up 4-0.
Caitlin Bernard and Michelle McKamey added wins for the finally tally of 7-0.
Up next the Hoosiers host Eastern Kentucky (1:00 PM) and Eastern Illinois (6:30 PM) on February 9 at the IU Tennis Center.
