BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – There's no shortage of excitement surrounding the 2018 Indiana Baseball season. What there is a shortage of, though, is reserved season tickets.
In fact, with the Hoosiers' home opener at Bart Kaufman Field still more than a month away, both Reserved Adult and Reserved Youth season tickets are sold out.
General admission season tickets and single game tickets remain on sale for all games for Coach Chris Lemonis' squad, which heads into the season ranked in nation's Top 25 and is the preseason Big Ten Conference favorite.
"We have a passionate fan base, which continues to be one of the best in the country, and is evident from this year's early season ticket response," said Lemonis, who is in his fourth year at the helm of the Hoosier program. "At Bart Kaufman Field, the support from the IU students and our community has been top notch. The team is excited to get out there in less than two weeks and keep the buzz around our community and fan base growing."
After opening the season on the road for their first 11 games, the Hoosiers make their home field debut March 7 against Cincinnati. Other marquee contests include a home series against Purdue (April 6-8), a meeting with preseason top-10 Kentucky (May 8) and a regular-season ending three-game set against 2017 NCAA qualifier Maryland (May 17-19).
In all, Indiana will play 13 games against teams that made in the 2017 NCAA Tournament field and 18 games against teams that finished in the top 75 of the 2017 RPI.
Indiana has visions of continuing its recent run of success that has included a Big Ten-best four NCAA Tournament invitations in the last five years. One of those NCAA invites came last year, when Lemonis' squad went 34-24-2 (14-9-1 Big Ten) and earned a No. 2 seed in the Lexington Regional.
Seven players from last year's team earned All-Big Ten accolades, and six of those players return for the 2018 season. Headlining that list are junior infielder/closer Matt Lloyd and senior outfielder Logan Sowers, both of whom earned second-team all-league honors in 2017.
