BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana volleyball head coach Steve Aird has announced the addition of Daniel Gwitt (Assistant Coach) and Logan Grenley (Director of Operations) to the volleyball staff on Friday.
Gwitt is a former Division I head coach and played collegiately at Penn State.
Over the past eight years, Gwitt has served as the Director of Operations and Master Coach for two of the largest and most successful clubs in Southern California. Gwitt has worked with thousands of young volleyball players throughout the United States and has helped place over 100 players in college.
Over the past four years, Gwitt has taken three different teams to the Open Division for the Girls Junior National Championships. All three of those teams finished in the Division I Southern California Volleyball Association Rankings and this past season Gwitt's seventeens team finished as the top ranked team in the SCVA.
"Dan has spent the last decade training and developing elite club talent," Aird said. "We have worked together before and have been close friends for a very long time, so he knows who I am and what my expectations are. He has a great feel for the game and experience as both a club coach and a college coach. He understands the challenge we have ahead of us and is excited about the opportunity. I believe he is going to do great things at Indiana and we can't wait to get going."
Prior to his time in the junior ranks, Gwitt was the head coach for The Centenary College Ladies Volleyball Team, a Division I member of the Summit League. Gwitt took over as the Interim Head Coach in 2007 and spent three seasons as the team's head coach. At the time Gwitt was regarded as the youngest Division I head coach in the country. Gwitt has worked with some of the nation's top programs including Penn State, Texas and Nebraska.
A native of Eden, N.Y., Gwitt graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2007 with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication Arts and Sciences. As a student-athlete on the Men's Varsity Volleyball team, Gwitt helped the Nittany Lions to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Championship and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
"I want to thank Steve Aird and Indiana University for offering me a chance to be part of this journey," Gwitt said. "With Steve at the helm and the University giving us such unbelievable support I know we can do something special here."
Logan Grenley comes to Indiana after spending the previous year at the University of Miami. At Miami, Grenley worked in football operations, helping coordinate the day-to-day operations of the football team and facilitating team nutrition.
Prior to Miami, Grenley served as a student manager for head coach Steve Aird at the University of Maryland. In his role, he assisted in coordinating the team budget, the booster club, team travel logistics, nutrition, equipment as well as other day-to-day operations. Additionally, he was responsible for operating film in addition to the Data Volley and Data Video statistical software as well as supporting recruiting efforts of the staff. Grenley also served as the Camp Director for Terp Volleyball Camps, in which he was responsible for all aspects of the summer camp series.
"Logan and I have worked together for years and I trust him with every aspect of our program," Aird said. He has great attention to detail, works hard every day and will care deeply about Indiana Volleyball. He will have a tremendous impact in a variety of areas and we are very lucky to have him on staff."
Grenley, a Los Angeles native, earned his Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in Government and Politics and a minor in business in 2017 from Maryland, and is working on completing his Masters in Sport Administration at the University of Miami.
"I'm excited to be a part of Indiana Volleyball," Grenley said. "Having worked extensively with Coach Aird in the past, I'm looking forward to being a part of the staff and building the Hoosier Volleyball program."
