BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer announced on Tuesday the addition of graduate transfer Claudia Day for the 2018 season. Day joins Indiana after four seasons at Wake Forest and will have one year of eligibility remaining.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Day played in 54 games for the Demon Deacons, making 24 starts primarily as a defensive midfielder.
"Claudia will be a tremendous addition to our program, both on and off the field," said head coach Amy Berbary. "We're very excited about the experience and talent she's able to bring coming from a powerhouse conference such as the ACC and we're looking forward to her joining the Hoosier family."
Day made an immediate impact for Wake Forest, getting the start in 13 games in her freshman season in 2014 and netting a goal. After missing the majority of her sophomore season due to injury, she started eight contests in 2016 and recorded a pair of assists. Last season, Day played in 19 games with three starts as Wake Forest finished 11-6-4 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
"From the second I stepped on campus, I knew IU was the place for me," said Day. "It was a great fit from both a soccer standpoint and academically. The coaching staff is easy to communicate with and honest, having made an immediate impact from the moment they arrived at IU. The girls on the team are a great group that is cohesive, team-oriented and hard working. I feel very confident in the direction the coaches are leading the team, and I'm so excited to be part of this great group of people. I can't wait to be on campus and see what we accomplish in the fall."
Day was team captain for both her club team (Birmingham United) and her high school (Briarwood Christian). She was named All-State and All-Birmingham Metro in 2013 after being named most Valuable Offensive Player with 26 goals and 12 assists. Day was also a member of the ECNL Player Development Program in 2012 and 2014.
Day will graduate from Wake Forest at the end of the semester with a degree in Health Exercise Science and a minor in Counseling. At Indiana, she will pursue her master's degree in Counseling.
