
Hoosiers Place Nine on NFHCA Academic Squad

Three seniors recognized as four-time honorees
GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced Thursday their selections to the 2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, honoring 960 student-athletes from 76 schools. Among the honorees were nine Hoosiers: Sachi Ananias, Claire Dickinson, Cameron Gibson, Elle Hempt, Katie Johnson, Maddie Latino, Olivia Rice, Abby Urbanek, and Claire Woods.
The Division I National Academic Squad program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
Five members of the senior class landed on the squad with Hempt, Johnson, and Latino ending their careers as four-year honorees. Johnson and Hempt, both fifth-year seniors, enter rarefied air as five-time National Academic Squad recipients.
Ananias, Dickinson, and Rice excelled in the classroom and earned academic honors in their first year with the team.
Last week Hempt and Ananias earned recognition as Scholars of Distinction from the NFHCA, awarded to student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Hempt ends her undergraduate academic career as a three-time Scholar of Distinction.
