Brodney helps IU effort with two clutch wins
The order of finish allowed Brodney (17-8) to take part in two crucial wins to lead IU towards their second conference road win. He and doubles partner Raheel Manji broke the 1-1 doubles tie with a 6-4 win to seal the first point for Indiana. Brodney and Manji are 6-2 as a doubles pair this season with three wins in four Big Ten matches.
A doubles win on the third court from Antonio Cembellin and Payam Ahmadi set up the clinching win by Brodney and Manji. Like their teammates in the second spot, Cembellin and Ahmadi earned a wire-to-wire 6-4 win, earning their first doubles victory as a pair this season.
The Spartans evened the dual score at 1-1 with a win in the fourth spot, but freshman Andrew Redding regained advantage for the Hoosiers with a win in two sets (6-1, 6-3). Redding is now 4-0 in duals after earning the first Big Ten singles win of his career.
Cembellin continued the charge and took a second consecutive singles win for Indiana, winning in two sets (6-3, 7-5) from the second spot. He held off a late rally from the Spartans in the second set to put Indiana one win away from clinching the match.
That put the pressure on Brodney once again, who won his first set 6-4 but conceded the second, 2-6. The sophomore found another gear to take the first three games and win the second set, 6-1.
The Hoosiers clinched the dual at 4-1 but played out the remaining matches for a 4-3 final result.
