Big Ten Play Continues as IU Heads to Maryland

SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
At 5-4 in Big Ten play, Maryland is in sixth place in conference standings. The Terrapins took two of three from Penn State, swept Iowa then dropped three to Illinois last weekend. Maryland, who is 5-5 at home, hosted Saint Francis (PA) on Wednesday night, splitting the doubleheader. The Terrapins are hitting .236 as a team, led by Skylynne Ellazar (.360, 41 hits, 19 runs, 15 RBI, 16 walks) and Brigette Nordberg (.294, 35 hits, 14 runs, 13 RBI). In the circle, Ryan Denhart (3.14 ERA, 8-11, 129.1 IP) and Sydney Golden (4.11 ERA, 8-11, 112.1 IP) have carried most of the workload.
Last season, Indiana swept Maryland at Andy Mohr Field. Tara Trainer earned a pair of wins in the circle, while Emily Kirk also picked up a complete game victory. The last time Indiana played in College Park came in 2016 when IU took two of three from the Terrapins.
LAST TIME OUT
• Indiana hosted Butler in a Tuesday doubleheader, splitting with the Bulldogs. Indiana won game one, 7-2, before falling in the finale, 4-1.
• Senior Rachel O'Malley and junior Sarah Galovich each knocked a home run in the doubleheader.
• The Hoosiers faced Nebraska over the weekend, going 1-2 against the Huskers. Nebraska won Friday and Sunday's games while Indiana was victorious in extra innings on Saturday.
• Freshman Taylor Lambert had a standout performance in the series against Nebraska, batting .750 in the three games with six hits and a run. In Indiana's victory on Saturday, she went a career-high 4-for-4 at the plate and scored the game-winning run. Lambert also collected a hit in each game of the Butler doubleheader to total eight hits in the last five games.
• Sophomore Katie Lacefield also impressed over the weekend, batting .500 with four hits. She hit the walkoff RBI single to defeat the Huskers in eight innings. It was the first extra inning game of the season for Indiana.
B1G PLAY
• At 7-2 in conference play, Indiana currently sits at second place in the Big Ten. Including this weekend, the Hoosiers have 14 games remaining against Big Ten opponents.
• In Big Ten play alone, IU is hitting .265 while holding its opponents to .192. The Indiana pitching staff's ERA of 1.40 in those nine games is second in the conference.
• Tara Trainer's 1.27 ERA in seven Big Ten appearances in second in the conference.
• Blitz's .500 batting average in Big Ten play leads the entire conference. She has 14 hits, 8 runs and 5 RBI in that time.
• Freshman Maddie Westmoreland's 15 RBI in conference play is tied for first in the Big Ten. Meanwhile, Lambert's five stolen bases is also tied for first.
HOOSIER QUICK HITS
• A pair of reached base streaks came to an end Friday as sophomore Gabbi Jenkins end at 15 games and Westmoreland's was stopped at 12.
• Blitz is sitting at a 13-game hitting streak and collected three hits in the doubleheader against Butler. Blitz has posted a team-high 14 multi-hit performances this season.
• Jenkins has knocked five triples this season, which is third-most in the conference and tied for 11 most in the country.
• The Hoosiers now have 75 stolen bases on the year, the second-most in the Big Ten and tied for the seventh most in a single season in program history. Blitz has 19 stolen bags, which is the second-most in the conference, while Jenkins has 18, the third-most in the Big Ten.
• Indiana is 14-0 this season when the Hoosiers are leading after five innings.
• Junior Tara Trainer's 135 strikeouts this season is good for fourth-most in the Big Ten. The Lebanon, Ohio native has 491 strikeouts in her career, the sixth-most in IU program history:
