
Two School Records Fall on the Final Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Indiana University track and field closed out the Penn Relays in a big way, bringing home two new school records Saturday evening.
The women's 4x800m team consisting of sophomore Joely Pinkston, junior Kelsey Harris, senior Brenna Calder and senior Kendell Wiles shattered the school record by just over ten seconds. The team crossed the finish line second with the overall time of 8:25.79. The previous school record was 8:36.25 and was set by Kendell Wiles, Olivia Hippensteel, Katherine Receveur and Brenna Calder at the 2017 Penn Relays.
Pinkston started the Hoosiers off and handed off to Harris at 2:07.50. Harris zipped around the track twice in 2:05.14, which was the fastest split of the second leg and the second fastest 800 relay carry in school history. Harris passed the baton to Calder made it through her 800m in 2:06.8, which is the fourth best relay carry in school history and about a one second improvement from her 2017 800m relay carry (2:07.3). Calder handed off to Wiles for the final two laps of the race. Wiles ran the second fastest carry of the day for the Hoosiers and the third fastest carry in school history when she crossed the finish in 2:06.37.
The men's 4x800m consisting of redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon, redshirt freshman Teddy Browning, senior Daniel Kuhn, and sophomore Cooper Williams broke the 31-year-old standing school record by just over two seconds. The team finished second overall with the time of 7:15.24. The previous school record was set at the 1987 Penn Relays by Keith Allen, Deon Cameron, Mark Deady and Mark Rodholm (7:17.80).
Huntoon ran the first leg for the Hoosiers and passed the baton to Browning at 1:51.18. Browning made it through his two laps in 1:148.76 and handed off to Kuhn. Kuhn bolted around the track twice in 1:47.52, which is the fastest 800 relay carry in school history. He passed off to Williams for the final two laps of the race. Williams ran the third fastest 800 relay carry in school history when he crossed the finish in 1:47.80.
Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch was one-of-two collegiate athletes to run in the Olympic Development men's mile Saturday evening, the rest of the field consisted of professional athletes. Veatch clocked a lifetime best of 4:01.95 and finished ninth overall. The Carmel, Ind. native now sits at the No. 7 spot on the Hoosiers all-time outdoor men's mile list.
Indiana University track and field will be back in action this Friday, May 4 when they host the Billy Hayes Invitational.
