Eleven Hoosiers Earn NFL Opportunities

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Eleven Hoosiers received NFL opportunities over the weekend. Tight end Ian Thomas and linebacker Chris Covington were selected on the final day of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Thomas kicked off day three as the first pick of the fourth round (101st overall) by the Carolina Panthers, while the Dallas Cowboys selected Covington with the 19th pick of the sixth round (193rd overall).
Following the draft, wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. (Washington Redskins), cornerback Rashard Fant (Chicago Bears), defensive lineman Robert McCray III (Kansas City Chiefs) and linebacker Tegray Scales (Los Angeles Rams) inked free agent deals.
Defensive back Chase Dutra (Detroit Lions), defensive back Tony Fields (Jacksonville Jaguars), defensive lineman Greg Gooch (New Orleans Saints), quarterback Richard Lagow (Kansas City Chiefs) and kicker Griffin Oakes (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) received rookie minicamp invites.
The group will join the eight Hoosiers currently in the NFL: running back Tevin Coleman (Atlanta Falcons), offensive lineman Dan Feeney (Los Angeles Chargers), running back Jordan Howard (Chicago Bears), wide receiver Cody Latimer (New York Giants), offensive lineman Rodger Saffold (Los Angeles Rams), offensive lineman Jason Spriggs (Green Bay Packers), quarterback Nate Sudfeld (Philadelphia Eagles) and wide receiver Shane Wynn (Jacksonville Jaguars).
