Water Polo Picks Up 9-4 Win at Brown

Kozokar earns third hat trick of the year; Matthews stuffs stat sheet
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Indiana's water polo team opened their five-game weekend with a thorough 9-4 win at Brown on Friday afternoon. Karrie Kozokar continued her top form with four goals and one assist to lead the No. 13 Hoosiers (21-6, 2-2) past Brown for their fourth true away win of the year.
Hoosier senior Kelly Matthews delivered a signature performance with numbers across the stat line, scoring two goals with two assists and four steals. Matthews has three or more steals in seven games this year and leads all Hoosiers with 48 this season.

The most impressive part of Kozokar's four-goal outing was that she scored all of them before the first half ended. The redshirt junior poured in the first two IU goals just 70 seconds into the game and found the last two in the final 72 seconds of the half. Kozokar capped her total with three seconds left on the second quarter clock.
The Bears tied the game in the first quarter, at 2-2, but the Hoosiers regained the lead on Matthews' first goal with three minutes to play. Joelle Nacouzi scored on the Hoosiers' last possession of the quarter, snapping a scoring drought with her 19th goal of the season.
Jessica Gaudreault made eight saves and locked the cage for the second and third quarters, giving the senior 24 scoreless quarters on the year. In that time, IU found four goals to extend their lead.
That started with Juli Hilovsky's score on one of Indiana's first possessions of the second quarter. Hilovsky has found her groove in the second half of this season, scoring at least a point (goal or assist) in six of the last eight games.
Freshman Jessica Rodriguez scored her 10th career goal on IU's opening possession of the final quarter, marking her 15th game with a point in 21 career appearances. Sophomore Emily Powell shared the assist lead with Matthews at two, her fifth game this season with more than one assist.

The Hoosiers won their last matchup with Harvard, two weeks ago, by one score in a thrilling 21-goal game.
