Strong Final Round Propels Hoosiers To Seventh Place Finish at Irish Creek

KANNAPOLIS, North Carolina – On Sunday at The Club at Irish Creek, the Indiana men's golf team may have entered the day in a tie for ninth place, but that didn't deter their focus over the final 18 holes. Behind stellar rounds by Jake Brown and Brock Ochsenreiter, Indiana posted the second-best round of the day – 4-over par 288 – to move up and finish seventh out of 15 teams at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate with a total score of 884 (+32).

It was Brown that led the way individually for IU, finishing the tournament in second place overall at 1-under par after a final round 72 that included a hole-in-one on the 18th hole, where he used a 3-iron from 226 yards. It is the fourth career top 5 finish for Brown and his second runner-up finish this season (Crooked Stick, Oct. 17).

Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter continued his run of recent strong play, as he finished tied for 12th individually at 4-over par following his 1-under par 70 in Sunday's final round. He is coming off a tie for second at the Bighorn Invitational the last time out.

Evan Gaesser and Brendon Doyle both put together solid rounds on Sunday, recording matching 2-over par rounds of 73. Gaesser matched his season-best round with the 73 and closed the tournament in a tie for 55th while Doyle finished tied for 63rd.

Jack Sparrow was able to close with a 74 in his final round to tie for 61st individually at 16-over par for the tournament.

Indiana will be back on the course this upcoming weekend – April 14-15 – at the Boilermaker Intercollegiate at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana.
