BRYAN, Texas – For the second time in as many days, Indiana redshirt junior Jake Brown posted a score of even par 72 at the NCAA Bryan Regional hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club. But on Tuesday, Brown took a different way to 72, registering four birdies along the way.
Aside from the same score in both rounds, Brown also hit the same number of greens in round two – 14 – as he did in round one. But on Tuesday, he was able to get a couple more to drop to offset a couple mishits that he had early in the round.
Brown was forced to use his short game early in the round, highlighted by a tremendous bunker shot on the par 3 second hole that led to a tap-in par.
The first trouble of the day came on the par 5 fifth hole, where his tee shot veered to the right and into the hazard, leading to a bogey. But he rebounded nicely on the short par 4 sixth hole with a birdie to get back to even on the day. However, his tee shot on the par 3 seventh came up short, as did his ensuing chip shot and he was back at 1-over par for the round.
He was able to post pars over the next four holes, capped off by a great lag putt on 11 from over 80 feet to a tap-in par. He carried that momentum to the 12th hole, where his approach shot ended up 15-feet above the hole but he nailed the putt to get back to even on the day. The roll continued on the short par 4 13th hole, where he nearly holed out from 125-yards and tapped in for birdie.

His birdie bid on 14 slid just by on the left side but he continued his hot play with a birdie putt from 13-feet on 15 to get to 2-under. After a good two-putt par on 16, he had a great look at birdie on 17 that caught the right lip and stayed out.
To close the round, Brown found trouble to the right off the tee and then hit his approach shot into the hazard on his way to a double bogey to fall back to even for the round and the tournament.
The second round will begin at 9:42 a.m. CT (10:42 a.m. ET) with the Brown going off the first tee. Follow hole-by-hole live scoring on GolfStat.com.
At the conclusion of three rounds, the top five teams and the top individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship Finals at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma on May 25-27.
Texas A&M leads Clemson by one shot heading into the final round, with TAMU teammates Chandler Phillips and Brandon Smith lead the individual race at 8-under par.
