BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball 2018 signing class earned Highest Honorable Mention from PrepVolleyball.Com.
The class includes: 6-4 middle blocker Lexi Johnson (Scottsdale, Ariz.), 6-2 outside hitter Breanna Edwards (Rainier, Ore.) and 5-10 setter Abigail Westenhofer (Louisville, Ky.)
"We are excited about this freshman class and certainly excited about the future of our program," IU head coach Steve Aird said. "This group will be asked to do a lot out of the gate, but they will be ready. We have added size, skill and energy and it will be the start of several excellent classes that will have the privilege of playing at IU. I have traveled the country a great deal over the past few months and there is a real excitement around this program."
Johnson earned recognition as a PrepVolleyball.Com Senior Ace and was selected the Arizona Interscholastic Association 5A Offensive Player of the Year. She had a career best 532 kills in her junior year.
Edwards also earned PrepVolleyball.Com Senior Ace honors and was selected a MaxPreps All-American. Edwards was a 4X All-State Honoree and led her team to a fourth-place finish at the 2017 Oregon State Tournament.
Westenhofer is a 2017 Under Armour All-American and 2017 Kentucky First Team All-State Honoree. In 2016, she led her high school team, Sacred Heart, to a State Championship.
"This recruiting class, future recruiting classes, the construction of the new arena and our current roster's hard work are all reasons for IU fans to be optimistic," Aird said. "We are laying the foundation of a program that deserves to be among the nation's elite."
