BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Indiana redshirt junior Jake Brown was one of 45 individuals selected to compete in a 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Regional Championship. Brown will be one of 10 individuals competing alongside 13 teams at the Bryan Regional in Bryan, Texas. The tournament will be played May 14-16 at Traditions Club and hosted by Texas A&M University.
"I was surprised and excited to see my name pop up on the screen," said Brown. "I'm very fortunate to have the support of my coaches and teammates and I'm looking forward to playing a challenging golf course like Traditions Club with nothing to lose."
Brown represents the first IU representation in NCAA postseason play since 2012-13 when the Indiana team advanced to the NCAA Fayetteville Regional. The last IU individual to earn a bid to an NCAA Regional was Jorge Campillo in 2007, when he played in the NCAA Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. He went on to finish in a tie for 72nd with a score of 235 (82-76-77) at the regional.
"Jake has had an outstanding year and phenomenal spring and we are thrilled that he is able to continue his season at the NCAA Regional," Mayer said. "He's our team leader that works tirelessly at his game and everything he does is for the team. I know he wishes the team was going with him, but Jake is extremely deserving and we will go down there with every intention of advancing on to the Finals."
Brown, a native of Carmel, Indiana, registered a 72.59 scoring average during the 2017-18 season, which ranks as the 11th-best single-season scoring average in IU history. He has four Top 10 individual finishes this season, with three of those being Top 5 finishes. Brown registered seven rounds in the 60s this year, with his best 18-hole score coming at Irish Creek where he posted a 66.
For his career, Brown has a 73.78 scoring average in 92 rounds and his career-best round was a 62 in the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate on March 1, 2016.
