TAMPA, Fla. – Indiana University track and filed had two athletes punch their tickets for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. and six athletes advances to quarterfinals this weekend in Tampa.
Sophomore Adam Coulon opened the meet for the Hoosiers in the men's pole vault. The Downs, Ill. native punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships when he set an outdoor personal record of 5.35m (17' 6.5"). The last Hoosier to advance to the NCAA Championships in the men's pole vault was Terry Batemon in 2015, he finished 20th earning honorable mention.
Junior Maggie Allen had a season-best performance in the 10,000m when she finished fourth overall with the time of 34:00.89, which advanced her to the NCAA Championships. Amanda Behnke was the last Hoosiers to make it to the NCAA Championships in 2015 where she finished 22nd overall, earning honorable mention.
In the 800m junior Kelsey Harris automatically advanced to the quarterfinals after taking third in the fourth heat. Harris shred two seconds off of her personal record crossing the finish at 2:03.89, which is the fourth fastest time in school history. On the men's side All-American Daniel Kuhn automatically advanced to the quarterfinals when he finished third overall in the fourth heat with the time of 1:48.74. Kuhn and Williams will run on Friday at 2:00 pm ET and Harris will run directly after at 2:15 pm ET.
In the 1500m the Hoosier advanced three athletes to the quarterfinals and set three personal records. On the women's side junior Haley Harris automatically advanced after a lifetime best performance of 4:20.70, which earned her a fifth place finish in the third heat. Senior Brenna Calder was one-of-four athletes to advance based off time. The Beaver Dam, Wis. native had a lifetime best performance and ran the fifth fastest time in school history when she crossed the finish line at 4:18.99. Redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel set a personal record of 4:23.00 in her NCAA East Prelims debut finishing 29th overall.
On the men's side redshirt junior automatically advanced when he took third in the second heat with the time of 3:52.98. Redshirt freshman crossed the finish line in 3:51.66 but did not advance to the quarterfinals as he finished seventh in the third heat. The men's 1500m quarterfinals will take place on Saturday at 1:00 pm ET with the women's scheduled to follow at 1:15 pm ET.
All of the track events on Friday, May 25 were moved up 30 minutes, the field events did not change – the updated schedule is attached. The first event for the Hoosiers will be the women's pole vault at 9:30 am ET featuring senior Rachel Mather. The first track event of day two of the NCAA East Preliminaries will be sophomore William Session in the men's 110m hurdles at 12:00 pm ET.
