BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A total of 116 students across 10 spring sports earned recognition from the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday by being named to the Academic All-Conference team.
A total of 256 Hoosiers has earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors this year with fall, winter and spring combined. That total represents an IU record for the most in a school year.
"To have a school-record 256 students earn Academic All-Big Ten honors this academic year is a tremendous source of pride for everyone involved with IU Athletics," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass. "I congratulate our 116 spring Academic All-Big Ten recipients for their tremendous work and commitment, along with their coaches, support staffs and families. We could not be prouder of this accomplishment."
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the fall and winter seasons and presents the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year. Students eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letterwinners in at least their second year in residence at their institution. Qualifying student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school. The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by conference Faculty Representatives as an addition to the conference's Academic All-Big Ten program.
