
Hoosiers Close Out Regular Outdoor Season at Home

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field hosted the Billy Hayes Invitational Friday evening to close out their regular outdoor season. The Hoosiers finished the night with a total of 14 personal records and seven season-best performances.
Junior Nycia Ford started the Hoosiers off in the field with a lifetime best mark of 63.30m (207' 8") in the hammer throw, which is a 9-foot improvement from her previous personal record that she set at Penn Relays last weekend (60.57m / 198' 8"). Ford took second place behind Olympian DeAnna Price.
The Jeffersonville, Ind. has the third best mark in the Hoosiers all-time outdoor women's hammer throw list behind Nakel McClinton (65.12m / 213' 8") and Laura Schroeder (64.99m / 213' 3"). After Friday night's performances she now has the fourth best mark in the Big Ten, fifth best mark in the East Region and the 18th best mark in the nation. Freshman teammate Princess Brinkley followed in the footsteps of Ford when she set a personal record of 51.79m (169' 11") for a seventh place finish.
In the men's hammer throw redshirt senior Andrew Miller finished second with the mark of 59.77m (196' 1"). Freshman Nick Lane competed unattached and finished third with a personal record of 57.26m (187' 10").
In the shot put sophomore Khayla Dawson brought home the gold with the mark of 16.77m (55' 0.25"). Freshman teammate Maddie Pollard competed unattached and took third with the mark of 15.23m (49' 11.75"). On the men's side junior Willie Morrison finished third overall with the mark of 19.78m (64' 10.75") behind Olympian Joe Kovacs and Jared Kern of Southern Illinois.
In the discus junior David Schall threw a season-best mark of 51.75m (169' 9"), which brought home the gold. On the women's side unattached Maddie Pollard threw in her second event of the evening and finished second overall with the mark of 50.32m (165' 1"). Khayla Dawson, also threw in her second event of the evening, took fifth with the mark of 45.16m (148' 2").
Junior Aaliyah Armstead won the women's long jump with the mark of 6.01m (19' 8.75"). Sophomore teammate Jenna Jungels took second behind Armstead with the mark of 5.99m (19' 8"). Senior Rachel Mather closed out the field events for the Hoosiers in the women's pole vault where she took third with a season-best mark of 3.75m (12' 3.5").
On the track freshman Christian Goines competed unattached in the 110m hurdle prelims and qualified for finals with a personal record of 14.39. He went on to take third in the finals with the time of 14.92. In the women's hurdles sophomore Jenna Jungels qualified for the 100m hurdles after taking seventh in the prelims. Jungels went on to run a season-best time of 14.53 in the finals and earned a sixth place finish.
In the sprints freshman Rikkoi Brathwaite ran unattached in the 100m prelims where he qualified for the finals with his first place finish with the time of 10.56. He went on to bring home the gold in the finals with the time of 10.53. On the women's side junior Jaela Gay qualified for the finals when she took second in the prelims with the time of 12.06 and senior teammate Maya Caudle also qualified for finals with the time of 12.25. In the finals Gay took second with the time of 11.97 and Caudle took third with the time of 12.22.
Unattached Brathwaite continued his strong performance in the men's 200m where he brought home another gold with a personal best time of 21.21. Brathwaite previously set his personal record of 21.40 at the CARIFTA Games in March. The personal records did not stop there in the men's 200m. Junior Derek Grimmer finished fourth overall with a personal record of 21.55 and freshman Isaiah Ware took fifth with the personal record of 21.69.
In the middle distances redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon took fourth in the 800m fast section with the time of 1:50.33. Freshman Aaron Bennett ran unattached along side of Huntoon when he finished fifth with a personal record of 1:50.79. On the women's side sophomore Joely Pinkston brought home the gold in the 800m fast section with a personal best time of 2:07.30. Sophomore Mallory Mulzer took third with the time of 2:09.34. In the open women's 800m senior Brenna Calder took the gold with the time of 2:08.95. Redshirt teammate Amy Smith ran an outdoor personal best time of 2:21.41 to bring home bronze and freshman Lorena Daugherty took fifth with a personal best time of 2:25.29.
In the 1500m fast section redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel trimmed about three seconds off of her personal record when she took the gold with the time of 4:23.67. Freshman teammate Claire Hamilton competed unattached and took fifth after running a personal best time of 4:34.58. On the men's side redshirt freshman Teddy Browning brought home silver with the time of 3:45.20.
In the relays the Hoosiers went 4-for-4 in running a season-best time in the 4x100m and the 4x400m. The women's 4x100m team consisting of sophomore Megan Grabowski, freshman Natalie Price, senior Brittany Thomas and freshman Zykeria Williams earned silver after crossing the finish line in 45.63. The men's 4x100m team consisting of junior Derek Grimmer, sophomore William Session, junior Treyton Harris and freshman Isaiah Ware brought home the gold with the time of 40.45.
The women's 4x400m team consisting of junior Riley Egbula, senior Kendell Wiles, junior Jeyland Valentin and freshman Natalie Price shaved just about five seconds off of their previous season-best time (3:40.27) when they brought home the gold with the time of 3:35.96. The men's team consisting of freshman Zubin Muncherji, sophomore Cooper Williams, junior Treyton Harris and senior Daniel Kuhn took two seconds off of their season-best time (3:11.29) when they also brought home gold with the time of 3:09.69 to close out the night for the Hoosiers.
Indiana University track and field will be back in action next weekend when they host the Outdoor Big Ten Championships Friday, May 11 – Sunday, May 13.
