
Hoosiers Earn Sweep of Minnesota with 23-1 Victory

With the victory, the Hoosiers improve to 18-8 on the season overall and in Big Ten play. The Golden Gophers fall to 4-23 on the year and in league action.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana wasted no time taking control of the game on Sunday, scoring five times in the bottom of the first inning. OF Grant Richardson had an RBI single, while INF Cole Barr earned an RBI on a throwing error from the Minnesota shortstop.
• OF Morgan Colopy and C Collin Hopkins each plated one with RBI doubles to give the Hoosiers a 5-0 advantage after one full.
• IU added eight more runs in the second inning, sending 11 batters to the plate. Colopy earned an RBI walk, while Hopkins had a two-run double. INF Paul Toetz then plated two more with an RBI single to right field.
• Richardson put an exclamation point on the frame, clubbing a three-run homer over the fence in right field to put the Hoosier lead at 13-0. In total, seven different Hoosiers scored a run in the inning, with Richardson scoring twice.
• RHP Gabe Bierman (3-2) had a great outing for the Hoosiers, pitching six strong innings to earn the win. He matched his career-high with 11 strikeouts and allowed just one run on five hits.
• Indiana added five more runs in the sixth thanks an RBI double from Toetz, a Barr RBI single and a three-run homer off the bat of Colopy.
• IU scored five more in the seventh to push the lead to 23-1. INF Jordan Fucci drew a bases-loaded walk, DH Tucker Schank had a three-run double and OF Hunter Jessee lined an RBI single to right-center field.
NOTABLES
• Indiana's sweep over Minnesota is the first for the program since taking both game against the Golden Gophers on May 5, 1962. IU went 5-0 against Minnesota this season.
• The series sweep was the second for the Hoosiers this season. The team took all four games from Penn State earlier in the season.
• Indiana's 23 runs and 17 hits were both season-highs. The 23 runs are the most for IU since scoring 27 against Butler on March 23, 2016.
• Indiana sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. OF Drew Ashley was hit by a pitch in both of his plate appearances in the frame.
• Schank made his collegiate debut for the Hoosiers. He went 1-for-1 with a double, walk and three RBI.
• LHP Braden Scott pitched a scoreless inning of relief, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
• RHP Reese Sharp also tossed a scoreless frame, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
• LHP Jack Walker made his collegiate debut, pitching a scoreless ninth inning. The lefty didn't allow any hits, walked two and had a pair of strikeouts.
