• Tom Ostrom is in his fourth season at Indiana after spending six years with Coach Miller at Dayton. He has served on the NCAA Division I level as an assistant coach at Arkansas (2007-11), South Alabama (2004-07) and Florida (2002-04).
• He has been part of a staff that produced the No. 7 recruiting class nationally in 2018 and the No. 13 class in 2020 including Indiana Mr. Basketball winners Romeo Langford (2018), Trayce Jackson-Davis (2019) and Anthony Leal (2020). Langford and Jackson-Davis were named McDonald’s All-Americans and Khristian Lander earned All-American honors from MaxPreps in 2020. In addition, Langford, who was a lottery pick by the Boston Celtics and Juwan Morgan who earned a contract with the Utah Jazz, both have begun their NBA careers.
• Last season, Indiana finished 20-12 and was poised to return to the NCAA Tournament before the COVID-19 Pandemic hit. The Hoosiers also finished with a winning record against nationally ranked teams with five victories, which was tied for 7th most in the country. IU also improved to 26th in the country in adjusted defense according to KenPom. The team also posted a 3.398 grade point average in the spring semester and a perfect 1.000 score on the APR for 2018-19. Jackson-Davis earned All-Freshman and third-team All-Big Ten accolades.
• In 2018-19, the Hoosiers earned their first national ranking since 2017 and were rated as high as 21st in the country. IU finished with 19 wins and won two post season games in the NIT, beat four nationally ranked teams and also improved to 32nd in adjusted defense after finishing 65th in 2017-18. IU also finished 36th in the country in blocked shots.
• Ostrom was a big reason why the Flyers went to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four years of his time at Dayton, seeing them advance to the Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen and winning Atlantic-10 regular season championships in 2016 and 2017.
• Ostrom spent four seasons at Arkansas on John Pelphrey’s staff, making one NCAA appearance and attracting the No. 7 recruiting class in the country in 2008. The Razorbacks were 69- 59 in those years with one NCAA appearance.
• Ostrom was also Pelphrey’s righthand man at South Alabama from 2004-2007. USA played in the NCAA and NIT after enjoying the largest turnaround in college basketball in 2006, going from 10 wins in 2004-05 to 24 wins and the Sun Belt title in 2005-06.
• Prior to joining the USA staff, he spent seven seasons under Billy Donovan at Florida, the first five as administrative assistant/video coordinator (1998- 2002) and the final two as an assistant coach (2003-04). While he was at Florida, the Gators played in the NCAA Tournament the last six years, advanced to the Sweet 16 twice and reached the NCAA championship game in 2000.
• A 1997 University of Minnesota graduate with a degree in Sports Management and Human Development, Ostrom worked in the Golden Gopher men’s basketball program as an undergrad under Clem Haskins. He prepped at Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, Minn.
• He and his wife, Lisa, reside in Bloomington with sons, J.T. and Maxwell, and daughter, Samantha. He also has a son, Tommy, who resides in Chicago.
