An All-American during his playing days for the Hoosiers, Brian Maisonneuve joined the Indiana coaching staff in January 2010 and enters his eighth season with the Hoosiers in the fall of 2017, as well as his fifth year as associate head coach.
During his tenure at Indiana, Maisonneuve has coached nine All-Americans, as well as 22 players who have gone on to play professional soccer, including 14 in the MLS. Since 2010, the Hoosiers have had 21 players named First-Team All-Big Ten and 50 players earn Big Ten honors of any kind. IU players have also earned nine conference player of the year accolades in that time. The Hoosiers have also excelled in the classroom in that time, earning an astounding 102 Academic All-Big Ten honors.
In 2017, the Hoosiers reached the College Cup Final, falling in double overtime to Stanford. Indiana was unbeaten in the team's first 24 matches and posted an overall record of 18-1-6 on the year, finishing the year ranked No. 2 in the nation. Maisonneuve and the rest of the IU coaches were named the Men's Midwest Region Staff of the Year (SOY) for Division I Institutions by the United Soccer Coaches.
In 2016, Maisonneuve was named one of the top-12 assistants in the country for the last three seasons and for the fifth time in his career. In 2015, Maisonneuve was named the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the second time during his time with the Hoosiers (2012).
Since joining the Indiana coaching staff in 2010, Maisonneuve has helped the Hoosiers reach the ultimate heights in NCAA soccer, including winning the National Championship in 2012 – the eighth for the IU program. Maisonneuve has also helped four Hoosiers earn five All-America honors during his tenure.
During his time on the sidelines, Maisonneuve has helped guide the Hoosiers to a regular season Big Ten Championship in 2010 and a Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2013.
In 2015, IU earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the 29th-straight season – the 40th overall for the program and posted a record of 13-5-3 and reaching the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.
The Hoosiers earned a top-16 seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2015 for an incredible sixth time in seven years since Maisonneuve joined the staff.
Prior to his return to Bloomington, Maisonneuve was on staff at the University of Louisville. During his two seasons the Cardinals were 24-11-4 overall and 13-7-1 in Big East play with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Prior to Louisville, Maisonneuve spent four years as an assistant coach with the U.S. U-17 National Team in Florida. He also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. U-20 National Team in 2007 during the CONCACAF qualification process and coached the U-20s in the 2007 FIFA World Cup in Canada.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Maisonneuve spent nine seasons with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer and was a member of the United States' 1998 World Cup team, appearing in all three matches. He was also a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, leading the squad with a pair of goals in the tournament.
"This is home for me," Maisonneuve said. "Being here for my college career meant a lot and the relationships I have built with Coach (Jerry) Yeagley, with Todd and Ernie and the support staff, it really became home for me. To have the opportunity to come home and coach meant a tremendous amount to me. This is arguably the best program in the country, and being part of the IU family again with the facilities, the players, to help continue to build the program is something special and it meant a lot to me and my family to return to Bloomington."
Maisonneuve donned a Hoosier uniform from 1991-94, playing alongside Yeagley. He earned All-America honors as a junior and senior and was named the Hermann Trophy winner in 1994. A two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, Maisonneuve finished his career with 44 goals and 22 assists, and led Indiana to a pair of NCAA College Cup appearances and back-to-back Big Ten regular season titles. During his four years at Indiana the Hoosiers were 73-15-7.
"Brian is one of the finest players to have every played at IU and we are fortunate to bring his distinguished playing and coaching experience back to Indiana University," Yeagley said. "Brian's international playing and coaching experience along with his exceptional character will help our student athletes tremendously as we strive to build champions on and off the field."
Maisonneuve and his wife Diana live in Bloomington with their children Jacob and Emma.
