Tennis coach from 1949-57 … under Lewis IU went from no Big Ten wins in 12 years to 3 Big Ten titles and 2 runner-up finishes … overall record 124 wins and 21 loses; Big Ten record 51 wins and only 11 defeats … in championship seasons of 1952, 1953, and 1954; IU twice was undefeated in league play and in 1954 went 19-0 overall … his players won 22 singles and doubles championships in Big Ten Championship tournaments … in 1984 was inducted into the International Tennis Association Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame … graduate of Utah State and later tennis coach at the University of Miami (Fla.), was inducted into the Hurricanes Hall of Fame.
