Played both basketball and baseball at IU from 1937-39 and is a member of both the Indiana Basketball and Baseball Halls of Fame…a native of Jeffersonville, Ind., Andres earned All-Big Ten and All-America honors in basketball in 1938 and 1939 and was IU’s Balfour Award winner both years as well…played professional baseball and basketball for five years apiece, making him the only IU athlete to ever play two sports professionally…after World War II cut short his professional playing career, he returned to IU in 1948 and served as the Hoosier baseball program’s head coach from 1948-73, compiling 388 career victories…he also spent 10 years an assistant basketball coach under IU Coach Branch McCracken from 1949-58, a run that included the 1953 national title.
