ROUGH FIELD YIELDS ROUGH RESULTS FOR WOMEN'S GOLF
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The IU women's golf team traveled west to face its toughest field of the season. Following the first round, it is fitting to find the Hoosiers in their toughest spot. After 18 holes over Stanford's par-73 course, the Hoosiers sit in the 12th position, 17 strokes behind the current leader, Oregon. This marks the first time all season IU has trailed after the first round.
The 34th Stanford Women's Intercollegiate features 10 teams ranked in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Poll top-25. IU is included in this group with a number 24 ranking, but it could not have been expected for the Hoosiers to waltz into the tournament and dominate the way they have in previous tournaments this fall. The squad came into the intercollegiate with three medalist performances in four tries.
The IU squad of Jenny Gray, Erin Carney, Sami Montgomery, Michelle Hatfield, and Sami Montgomery combined to card a first round team total of 312, twenty strokes over par.
Individually, seniors Jenny Gray and Erin Carney paced the Hoosiers once again with a 76 and 77, respectively.
The tournament resumes on Saturday with 8:00am tee times at the first and 10th holes. The final round will be played on Sunday with an 8:30am shotgun start.
