SOCCER HOOSIERS BATTLE BACK TO
DEFEAT BUTLER, 6-2
Bloomington, Ind.- The Hoosiers received their first real scare in over a month but battled back with five second half goals to defeat Butler, 6-2.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on IU as they scored on two of their three first half shots, but Chris Klein scored the first of his two goals at the 25:18 mark to put the Hoosiers on the board. Butler took a 2-1 lead to the half, marking the first time Indiana has trailed at the midway point this season.
But the Hoosiers came out gunning in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals. Dema Kovalenko scored on a direct kick at the 57:03 mark to tie the game, and just five minutes later, Klein knocked in another to give IU the lead.
"It was a good wake up call," Head Coach Jerry Yeagley said. "We played a great second half, but I give a lot of credit to Butler. They played a clean, physical match, and any time you can get a wake-up call without a loss, you're lucky."
Indiana also received two goals for the second straight game from sophomore Aleksey Korol, and the first goal of the season for senior J.T. Cerroni. IU junior Andrew Parrish registered his first point of the season on an assist of Korol's first goal.
The two first half goals were the first goals allowed by Indiana since September 1 against Bowling Green. It also marked just the second time an IU opponent scored more than once this season.
The victory improves the HoosiersU record to 12-0, giving them the best start since 1978 when they started out 16-0. IU will next see action when they host Evansville on Sunday at 2:30 p.m..
