BIG FOUR CLASSIC -- Indiana's women's basketball team plays its season opener Sunday, Nov. 16, when the team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to play Ball State in the first game of the Big Four Classic. Indiana plays the Cardinals at 1 p.m., while Purdue takes on Ball State at 3 p.m., in Mackey Arena.
CLASSIC HISTORY -- Sunday's games mark the sixth year that the Big Four Classic has been held. The Classic began as a way to provide exposure for women's basketball and to showcase Indiana's four NCAA Division I public institution's programs. The Hoosiers are 5-0 in the Classic and 2-0 vs. the Cardinals. Last year, Indiana defeated Indiana State 66-57.
SEASON STARTS -- Under Head Coach Jim Izard, the Hoosiers are 7-2 in season opening games. Last year, Indiana lost to No. 10 Western Kentucky 85-74 in overtime. Since 1991, Indiana has compiled a 48-4 regular season nonconference record.
THE HOOSIERS -- Indiana closed out the exhibition portion of its schedule last Saturday with a 92-83 victory over the Brisbane Blazers of Australia. Junior Summar Maines led all players with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Quacy Barnes scored 18 points and hauled in eight boards while Staci Mueller netted 17 points and Kristi Green added 14. As a team, the Hoosiers were quite impressive on the boards, outrebounding the Blazers 57-40. In the Hoosiers first exhibition game of the season, IU defeated the Hoosier All-Stars 93-69. Five players turned in double-digit scoring performances, led by Maines who collected 20 points, including 12-12 shooting from the free throw line.
ON BALL STATE -- Ball State returns eight letterwinners and three starters off of last year's squad which posted a 13-13 overall record and a BSU record 11-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals went 1-1 in exhibition play, losing to the Hoosier All-Stars 75-70 before defeating Sporitelna Bratislav 63-52. Three-year starter Char Thomsen returns as the team's leading scorer after averaging 12.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a junior. Ball State is coached by Robyn Markey who is beginning her sixth season with the Cardinals and carries a 35-94 school record.

HONEGGER QUESTIONABLE FOR BALL STATE GAME -- Forward Rachael Honegger's playing status is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Ball State. Honegger is scheduled to undergo a diagnostic procedure Thursday, Nov. 13, to correct a tachacardia problem (rapid beating heart).
HEAD COACH JIM IZARD -- Head Coach Jim Izard begins his 10th season at the helm of the Indiana program where he owns a 144-111 (.563) overall school record and a 67-90 (.427) mark in the Big Ten Conference. As Indiana's all-time winningest coach, Izard has guided his teams to eight winning seasons and two NCAA post-season tournament appearances. His 16-year career record stands at 307-160 (.657).
HOOSIERS IN THE POLLS -- Indiana received four votes in the Associated Press' Preseason Women's Basketball Poll.
WHO'S HOT -- Through exhibition play, it's easy to see which Hoosier has the hot-hand. In the two games, junior Summar Maines has averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds and has made 19-21 free throws, including 12-12 shots from the charity stripe against the Hoosier All-Stars. From the field, Maines has connected on 74 percent of her shots from the field.
THE TALL AND SHORT OF IT -- Indiana's point/post punch duo of junior Kristi Green and Quacy Barnes hold the distinction of being the shortest and tallest in the Big Ten Conference. Point guard Green stands 5-2, while post player Barnes measures in at 6-5.
INDIANA BASKETBALL ON THE RADIO -- All of Indiana's games will be heard live via radio broadcast on WGCT (105.1 FM). The live broadcast will be handled by play-by-play announcer Mike Scott. The broadcast will feature scouting reports by coach Jim Izard, player interviews, a half-time show and a post-game wrap-up with assistant coaches Susan Dixon and Keila Whittington.
HOOSIERS ON THE TUBE -- Five of Indiana's games will be televised live this season, starting with the Hoosiers first television appearance Friday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m., against Michigan on WTIU-TV. WTIU will also telecast IU's game vs. Purdue (Jan. 25/5 p.m.); Penn State (Feb. 8/2 p.m.) and Minnesota (Feb. 15/2 p.m.). Fox Sports Chicago will televise two IU games this season, starting with the Hoosiers game vs. Illinois Monday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. Fox Sports other broadcast will be against intrastate rival Purdue Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.
