MICHIGAN AND WISCONSIN TOPS AT
GREAT LAKES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Hoosier men take ninth, women 16th
Bloomington, Ind.- The University of Michigan and Wisconsin dominated the 1997 Great Lakes Regional Championship held at the Indiana University cc Course. Michigan placed five men and three women in the top ten, while Wisconsin had one male runner and four female runners finish in the top ten.
The Hoosiers finished ninth on the men's side and 16th in the women's division. 1997 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Marius Bakken, and fellow Hoosier Tom Chorny were the leading runners on the men's side finishing 15th and 20th in the 10K. As in the Big Ten Championships, Bakken was the top finishing true freshman in the men's competition. The women were paced by Amber Macy and Cassidy Wall in the 5K finishing 58th and 89th.
This was the last home meet of the season for the Hoosiers. The men's and women's teams of the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin will compete in the NCAA Championships on Monday, November 24th, in Greenville, South Carolina. There are four at large bids given to selected teams and to individuals to compete in the NCAA Championships. These will be announced in the upcoming week.
