SOCCER HOOSIERS SHUT OUT
BOWLING GREEN
Indianapolis, Ind.- Dema Kovalenko's goal at the 70:22 gave the Hoosiers all they would need as they shut down Bowling Green, 1-0 in the first match of the Nike/Snickers Soccer Fest in Indiana polis.
Kovalenko took a pass from Lazo Alavanja and went around Falcon goal keeper Scott Vallow to knock in the six-yard shot for the Hoosiers game-winner. The goal was Kovalenko's second game-winning goal this season, as he also registered the deciding tally in the Hoosiers victory over Rutgers.
The Hoosiers outshot Bowling Green, but couldn't manage a goal until Kovalenko broke free of the Bowling Green defense and scored for the fifth time this season. He leads the Hoosiers with 10 points on five goals.
IU's redshirt freshman goal keeper T.J. Hannig recorded his second shutout of the season, but did not need to register a save, as the pesky Hoosier defense held the Falcons to just four shots.
The victory improves the Hoosier's record to 6-0, while Bowling Green evens its record at 3-3. IU will face Rhode Island tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 in the early game at Kuntz Stadium.
"We did a better job of moving the ball in the second half, but we should have had more than one goal," said Head Coach Jerry Yeagley.
