Women's Tennis Nets Three Recruits
Kelly Blanch
Grafton, New South Wales
Australia
Grafton High School
Blanch joined the team in January. A December, 1997 graduate of Grafton
High School in Grafton, New South Wales, Australia, Blanch led her school
to a second place finish in the Australian All School Championships in
December. She was the only #1 player to finish the tournament undefeated.
Accomplishments: Ranked #4 in Australia in Girls' 16 Singles...won Girls' 14 Australian
National Clay Court Doubles Championships in 1993 and 1994...won Girls' 16
Australian National Clay Court Doubles Championships in 1995...won Girls'
14 Australian National Grass Court Doubles and Singles Championships in
1994...ranked #1 in Australia in Girls' 14 Singles in 1994...represented
her country in the NIT World Junior Finals in Japan in 1994.
Amanda Field
Gainesville, Florida
Eastside High School
An honor student at Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida, Field
won the 4A High School State Championships as a junior. She is currently
ranked among the top 10% in her class academically while accumulating a
43-2 overall record on the court. Field is the niece of famous Hollywood
actress Sally Field.
Accomplishments: Ranked 60th nationally in Girls' 18's in 1997...member of the 1997 Florida
Girls' 18 Intersectional Team...ranked 30th nationally among Girls' 16's
in 1996...ranked 7th in the state of Florida in 1996...led Eastside High
School to the 4A High School State Championships last year.
Karie Schlukebir
Kalamazoo, Michigan
Mattawan High School
An honor student who is ranked in the top 10% of her class, Schlukebir was
the captain of the victorious Western Michigan Junior Wightman Cup Team
last year. Her sister Katie was a 1997 graduate of Stanford where she was
a starter on their NCAA Championship team.
Accomplishments: Ranked 66th nationally in the Girls' 18's in 1997...member of the 1997
Western Girls' 18 Intersectional Team...ranked 42nd nationally in Girls'
16's in 1996...ranked 4th in Western Tennis Association in 1996...won the
Michigan Class B State High School Championships as a sophomore.
