Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana Hoosiers proved to be much too strong for the Wisconsin Badgers tonight at Bill Armstrong Stadium defeating them 3-0. The shutout is the Hoosier's tenth on the season.
The offense was dominated by IU as the Hoosiers held Wisconsin shotless until the second half. Indiana out shot Wisconsin 22-2.
Coach Jerry Yeagley felt the Hoosiers could have done even more damage. He said, "I thought the score of 1-0 was not indicative of the first half. We had 14 shots and they did not have any. We could have had 3 more, but the combination play and possession work was very, very nice."
Freshman Ryan Mack got the offense rolling scoring the first and deciding goal at the 25:18 mark off an assist by both Alexsey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko. But the night belonged to senior Lazo Alavanja.
In the 52nd minute and the 87th minute, Alavanja fired in two goals to make the final score 3-0. Coach Yeagley was very pleased with the midfielder's performance.
"Lazo was the determining factor, that's why he's a candidate for Player of the Year," Coach Yeagley said.
Indiana plays their final home game of the year on Sunday versus Northwestern.
Action is set to begin at 2 pm.
