Stanford, Calif., The IU men's golf team struggled through the first round of the Nelson Intercollegiate, ending the day tied for 16th place. The Hoosiers round of 303, 19 over par, was 20 strokes off the pace set by Colorado State and Northwestern (283), both 1 under par.
The Hoosiers top golfer was Corey Sullivan. Sullivan turned in a round of three over par 74, leaving him tied for 37th, 10 strokes off the lead set by Jess Daley of Northwestern (64). Daley's round of seven under par is three strokes better than second place.

Coach Mike Mayer said he was slightly disappointed with the team's performance, but is looking for his players to come back with better rounds.
