INDIANA LOSES TO TOP-RANKED OHIO STATE, 38-7
Bloomington, Ind. -- Before a sellout crowd of 52,049 in Bloomington, the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 38-7.
"We're happy to get out of here with a good solid victory," said head coach John Cooper. "I thought we played a good ballgame. I thought Indiana was a very, very improved football team. I think Cam Cameron and his staff have done a great job and (quarterback) Antwaan Randle El is as good as advertised."
Ohio State wide receiver David Boston snapped a scoreless tie with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter when he returned a Drew Hagan punt 70 yards for a touchdown. Ohio State scored again with 4:04 remaining in the first qtr. on a 2-yd. run by RB Michael Wiley (16-80-1TD). After a TE John Lumpkin touchdown increased OSU's lead to 21-0, Indiana scored on a 37-yd. touchdown pass from QB Antwaan Randle El (31-16-218-1-1) to wide receiver Levron Williams (5-1-5-1TD) just prior to halftime.
Boston opened the third quarter with a three-yard touchdown grab from quarterback Joe Germaine, who completed 31 of 45 passes for a career-high 351 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was Germaine's fourth consecutive 300-yard passing effort. He hit Boston nine times for 110 yards and hooked up with wide receiver Dee Miller 11 times for 159 yards.
"That's obviously a very good football team. The first half I thought we did some good things with the exception of the punt return. Whether they're the best team in the country I have no idea, but they're one of the best and they can beat you a number of ways. Look at Dee Miller today. They showed you why you can't take Boston away. Their defense is getting better and better."
Notes:
The crowd of 52,049 was the 13th largest in the history of Memorial Stadium and the first 52,000-plus crowd since the 52,080 that saw Indiana and Ohio State battle to a 27-27 tie in 1990.
Junior defensive end Adewale Ogunleye's third-quarter sack of Joe Germaine gives him 25.5 career sacks which set the school record (Van Waiters, 25.0).
With 9 tackles today, senior linebacker Jabar Robinson has tallied 301 career tackles.
Wide receiver Levron Williams passed the 100-yard receiving mark for the first time in his career. He was 5-105-1TD receiving.
