HOOSIERS UPSET BY HAWKEYES
Iowa gets first Big Ten win of season
Iowa City, Iowa.-Winless in Big Ten play, the Iowa Hawkeyes stunned the Indiana Women's Volleyball team with a three-game sweep tonight at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The 15-7, 15-11, 15-12 upset drops the Hoosiers to 14-10 overall and 7-8 in Big Ten play.
For the fourth consecutive match, junior outside hitter Ryann Connors slammed down 20-plus kills. Connors had 20 tonight to lead the Hoosiers, who hit .134 for the match.
Katie Panhorst and Sarah Beck led the Hawkeyes (7-17 overall, 1-14 Big Ten) with 14 kills each. Iowa hit .254 for the match, including a .324 performance in game two.
The Hoosiers had their opportunities throughout the match but were unable to capitalize. They led 4-0 in the first game but Iowa outscored them 15-3 the rest of the way. Indiana also led 12-4 in the game third but was unable to close it out.
Head Coach Katie Weismiller said the Hoosiers just failed to get the job done. "We came out flat," she said. "We did not play to win and that's what we needed to do as a team." She added, "We couldn't get it going offensively. It was one of the poorest offensive games we've had all year."
The Hoosiers hook it up again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against the Wisconsin Badgers at Wisconsin Field House in Madison, Wisc.
