INDIANA WINS SECOND IN A ROW
The Hoosiers ended the regular season at home with a three-game sweep over Minnesota. For the second straight game Indiana started slow spotting the Golden Gophers leads of 6-0 and 10-5 before coming back to win game one 15-13.
Defense was the key for the Hoosiers as the put up 15 blocks and had 58 digs. Minnesota's Nicole Branagh came into the match ranked second in the Big Ten in kills per game at 5.40. Indiana held the outside hitter to 13 kills and a .091 hitting percentage.
On Senior Night it was junior Ryann Connors that led Indiana with 18 kills and 10 digs. Senior Melissa Rooney tallied a season-high 15 digs with seven kills. Cydryce Carter, also a junior, was in double-figures with 11 kills and sophomore Amanda Welter added 10.
Head coach Katie Weismiller commented, "We started off a little slow and sluggish. I felt like it was a good defensive effort with 15 blocks and 58 digs. We've knocked off two opponents that are with us in the conference standings and that could possibly be competing with us for a NCAA tournament spot."
Up next for Indiana is Ohio State and No. 2 Penn State. Both matches are on the road with Friday's match in Columbs at 7 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. start at Penn State. The Hoosiers defeated Ohio State earlier in the season and lost to Penn State.
"We match up well with Ohio State and have the ability to go into Penn State and upset them," said Weismiller.
