HOOSIERS DROP REGULAR SEASON FINALE AT PENN STATE
University Park, Pa. - Indiana (16-13, 9-11 Big Ten) wrapped up the regular season with a 15-5, 15-6, 15-10 loss at No. 2 Penn State (30-0, 20-0 Big Ten). With the win, the Nittany Lions recorded the ninth undefeated regular season in NCAA history. They are the only school to go undefeated twice as they finished the regular season 42-0 in 1990.
Indiana was led once again by senior Melissa Rooney. The middle blocker had 11 kills and nine digs with a .269 attack percentage. Junior Ryann Connors tallied 10 kills and 10 digs while Cydryce Carter had seven kills and a team-high 13 digs.
Penn State held Indiana to a .093 attack percentage and two of the Hoosiers top hitters, Amanda Welter and Jen Magelssen, were held to negative marks.
Head coach Katie Weismiller was pleased with the effort of her team, "We played a lot better tonight than we did last night. There were a lot of great rallies and it was a competitive match. At one point in game three it was 11-10. I was pleased with our performance tonight. With it being Senior Night here and their third largest crowd ever it was very competitive."
Indiana finishes the regular season tied for fifth in the Big Ten with Ohio State. The Buckeyes and Hoosiers had an identical conference and overall records this season.
The question of Indiana's postseason will be answered tomorrow evening as the NCAA selects the 64 teams that will play in the tournament. The selection committee will announce the draw at 8:30 p.m. EST.
