HOOSIERS DEFEAT ROTA-BANSKA 87-43 IN EXHIBITION GAME
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Led by the strong play of freshman Jill Chapman, the Indiana's women basketball team handedly defeated Rota-Banska (Slovakia) 87-44 Friday evening in its first exhibition game of the season in Assembly Hall.
In all, four Hoosiers scored in double digits with 6-5 center Jill Chapman coming in off the bench to score a game-high 18 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Seniors Dani Thrush and Cindy Kerns each added 13 points while junior Kay Morgan went 3-4 from behind the 3-point arc for 11 points.
The Hoosiers shot 50 percent from the field while holding Rota-Banska to just 33 percent field goal shooting. IU also won the battle of the boards with 40 rebounds compared to the Slovakians' 31.
"I was really pleased with the overall performance of our team tonight," said Head Coach Jim Izard. "Especially the play of Jill and Dani. Dani played very aggressive and took care of the ball and made good decisions. Jill came in off the bench and did a lot of nice things for us. One thing that came out of tonight was that I was pleased to see how much depth we have in the front court. It might be as much inside depth as we have ever had."
The Hoosiers will be back in action next Tuesday, playing the Reebok
Lady Stars at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 10 in Assembly Hall.
