INDIANA TOPPLES VANDERBILT IN BIG TEN/SEC CHALLENGE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's women's basketball team extended its win streak to eight games Saturday afternoon by defeating Vanderbilt 84-61 in the first game of the Big Ten/SEC Challenge which was broadcast live on ESPN2 from Assembly Hall.
The Hoosiers which improve to 10-3 on the season handed the Commodores their fourth-straight loss which dropped them to 3-5.
Four Hoosiers scored in double-digits, including Cindy Kerns' double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Kay Morgan went 4-9 from behind the arc to finish with 18 points while Kristi Green and Dani Thrush each tossed in 10 points apiece. Thrush just missed a triple-double with 10 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
"This was a very big win for us and our program," said Jim Izard. "Anytime you can beat a Southeastern Conference team, you are beating a quality team. I think our defense did a good job of shutting Vandy down and I think that once again, Cindy Kerns came up big for us. Kay hit some critical three's and Dani was very solid for us."
