INDIANA DEFEATS EVANSVILLE 77-73
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team withstood a 22-8 run by the Purple Aces late in the second half to defeat Evansville 77-73 Thursday evening in Assembly Hall.
The Hoosiers (5-3) led by as many as 12 points (49-37 ) with 13:13 to go in the game before Evansville charged back to take a 63-58 lead at the 6:46 mark. The two teams battled back and forth before Indiana could regain the lead 68-67 on a Summar Maines short jumper with 3:03 remaining. From there, Indiana's seniors took over scoring duties as Cindy Kerns chipped in six points, Maines added four points and a critical block and Kristi Green sunk an off-balance drive while being fouled with :10 left to play.
For the Hoosiers, Cindy Kerns scored a career-high 28 points which included 3-3 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Kerns also added seven rebounds. Kay Morgan and Kristi Green also scored in double digits with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The Hoosiers will next be in action Sunday, Dec. 6 against Indiana State in the seventh-annual Big Four Classic in Terre Haute.
